Schedule Changes For ESPN Outdoors

Viewers may notice something a little different during the next three weeks of ESPN Outdoors programming on ESPN2. On Saturday, June 14, ESPN2 will air a double dose of the morning outdoors block, beginning programming at 7 a.m. (ET) and ending at 3:30 p.m. The following Saturday, June 21, ESPN Outdoors will resume its normal schedule – but on Saturday, June 28, the ESPN Outdoors block will not air.

Saturday, June 14

7:00 a.m. – “WAL-MART GREAT OUTDOORS”

Start your weekend off with Mark Dorn as he teaches Jack Youngblood the secrets to great walleye fishing in Michigan, one of America’s walleye hotbeds.

7:30 a.m. – “POVEROMO’S WORLD OF SALTWATER FISHING”

George Poveromo and his friend Lou Volpe head offshore for a day of variety fishing over the South Florida reefs. Poveromo and Volpe cover effective drifting strategies, how to arrange baits to cover a wide expanse of water and depth, and how to build a deadly terminal tackle system that catches a variety of saltwater game.

7:55 a.m. – “BACKROADS WITH RON AND RAVEN”

One of the Great Lakes just might harbor some of the greatest lake fishing around. Ron Schara and Raven, the Black Lab, head to Lake Superior to find out.

8:00 a.m. – “JIMMY HOUSTON OUTDOORS”

Legend Jimmy Houston is in Alabama, fishing with Jerry DeBin of Alabama Fish and Game. Fishing with crankbaits, the two catch quality bass – something the Heart of Dixie is renowned for.

8:25 a.m. – “ESPN GREAT OUTDOOR GAMEBOOK”

Today we take a closer look at the city that will be hosting the 2003 Great Outdoor Games – Reno, Nev. We’ll catch a glimpse of the 360 degrees of adventure “The World’s Biggest Little City” has to offer for the fourth annual ESPN Great Outdoor Games.

8:30 a.m. – “THE BASS CLASS WITH DENNY BRAUER”

Denny fishes the oxbows of the Arkansas River near Stuttgart, Ark., casting a spinnerbait amongst the cypress trees and heavy cover that the oxbows provide. Take a seat and pull out your notebook, as class begins at 8:30.

8:55 a.m. – “CANON PHOTOS IN THE WILD”

This tip is about taking what you do in the field and learning how to make improvements by analyzing your photographs. In particular, looking at your photographs will help teach you when is it the right time to shoot in the program mode, aperture priority or shutter priority.

9:00 a.m. – “SPORTMAN’S CHALLENGE WITH RON FRANKLIN”

Join Doug Hannon and his good friend Captain Shawn Foster as they go after the world-class redfish that inhabit the lagoons near Cocoa Beach, Fla.

9:25 a.m. – “BIG GAME BITES”

Captain Norm Isaacs goes in depth about the importance of rod maintenance. Catch this weekend’s segment to understand a few of the how-to’s that are necessary in maintaining the vitality and performance of your rods.

9:30 a.m. – “NORTH AMERICAN OUTDOORS”

Steve Pennaz had one of his greatest trips ever last year in Louisiana when he hooked into some great fishing in the blue water off the coast of Venice. Today, he’s back for more, but this time, the weather forces a change of plans, meaning heading inshore to the Mississippi River Delta for huge redfish Later, Mark Kayser is in his home state of South Dakota, on one of the toughest hunts you’ll find – bow hunting for antelope.

9:55 a.m. – “THE HUNT FOR BIG FISH”

Upgrading electronics and switching tactics put the “Big Fish” crew on the perch big time. Marilyn gets into the action and Larry catches a mammoth as the two target Egypt Nile Perch.

10:00 a.m. – “FLY FISHING AMERICA”

Chad Foster stays close to home this week, as it is prime time for trout fishing in the north Georgia mountains. Just two hours up the road from Atlanta, Chad and fly fishing guru Jimmy Harris tie into monster brown trout all day long in a classic mountain stream at the base of Cannon Falls Lodge.

10:25 a.m. – “ESPN Great Outdoor Gamebook”

Today we take a closer look at the city that will be hosting the 2003 Great Outdoor Games – Reno, Nev. We’ll catch a glimpse of the 360 degrees of adventure “The World’s Biggest Little City” has to offer for the fourth annual ESPN Great Outdoor Games.

Bert and Beau Jones comb the swamps of Louisiana looking for large redfish.

12:30 p.m. – “POVEROMO’S WORLD OF SALTWATER FISHING”

Late fall is the time when trophy red drum invade the inlets and beaches of coastal Georgia. George Poveromo and noted angler and Georgia Department of Natural Resources fisheries biologist Spud Woodward target these fish out of Brunswick. Poveromo and Woodward use live mullet to hook the speedy, powerful drum in this exciting catch-and-release environment.

12:55 p.m. – “BACKROADS WITH RON AND RAVEN”

Raven the black lab has many famed accomplishments, but maybe none as great as one she recently enjoyed, all captured on this episode.

1:00 p.m. – “JIMMY HOUSTON OUTDOORS”

In the first part of this episode, Jimmy is crappie fishing on Louisiana’s Lake D’Arbonne with a local tackle dealer. The two reach around cedar trees and jig for crappie with unique fly combos. Later, Jimmy heads to Texas, crappie fishing on Silver Lake Ranch with Joe Hall.

1:25 p.m. – “ESPN GREAT OUTDOOR GAMEBOOK”

Meet two of the most famous timber families this country has to offer, the Scheers and the Duffys. Watch them as they dazzle us with their talent right in their hometown of Hayward, Wis.

1:30 p.m. – “THE BASS CLASS WITH DENNY BRAUER”

Denny joins his son Chad on Newton Lake in Illinois; and together, they are able to impart some wisdom on a number of fishing scenarios, as they practice for their next tournament.

1:55 p.m. – “PHOTOS IN THE WILD”

The key in becoming a better photographer is understanding what you are trying to accomplish with your images, and then learning what features on the camera can help you achieve your goals.

2:00 p.m. – “SPORTMAN’S CHALLENGE WITH RON FRANKLIN”

Angling dads Doug Bunze and John Weiss take their daughters Jill and Paige on the fishing adventure of a lifetime in northern British Columbia. The girls learn to catch rainbow trout and help their dads wrangle Chinook salmon.

2:25 p.m. – “BIG GAME BITES”

Norm takes us through a regular pre-fishing ritual that should never be overlooked – setting the strike drag to the right weight.

2:30 p.m. – “NORTH AMERICAN OUTDOORS”

Last year, a group of Pennsylvania miners were trapped below ground, and it was a miracle when they were rescued alive. One of the miners stated the only thing that kept him going was the desire to turkey hunt one more time. Today, we’re along for the ride as Bill Miller heads to Pennsylvania for a Turkey hunt he won’t soon forget.

2:55 p.m. – “THE HUNT FOR BIG FISH”

As the “Big Fish” crew continues into the desert, their boat carrying them to a new campsite each evening, they meet a few natives, and Larry is offered several dozen old camels in exchange for his wife.

Jose Wejebe shows us a rare, underwater glimpse of upwellings, slicks and weedlines, and how well they attract fish.

8:00 a.m. – “DODGE OUTFITTERS ALMANAC”

Located in Osceola, Fla., Quail Creek Ranch is home to high-flying quail, skill-testing skeet and amazing swamp buggy rides.

9:55 a.m. “A CENTURY OF CONSERATION”

Join us to celebrate the 100 years since Teddy Roosevelt’s establishment of the National Wildlife Refuge System. This week, the spotlight is on one of the most renowned and magnificent – the Kodiak National Wildlife Refuge, a true icon of American outdoors and conservation.

10:00 a.m. – “K9 NATION”

Some sporting dogs do more than hunt game. They also hunt for people who need companionship, therapy and a timely visit from a special friend with a cold nose and warm heart. H.A.B.I.T. (Human-Animal Bond in Tennessee) is a community outreach program which hunters take their hunting companions to hospitals, assisted living facilities and elementary schools to make a difference in the lives of special people in need.
