Texas A & M’s Regional Championship Victory Airs Dec. 20 On Versus

One-hour show covers National Guard FLW College Fishing tournament on Sibley Lake

Tune in Sunday, Dec. 20 to “FLW Outdoors” on VERSUS for complete coverage of the National Guard FLW College Fishing Texas Regional Championship. The show, which is broadcast in high definition, highlights Texas A&M’s improbable comeback on Sibley Lake.

The Texas A&M team of Paul Manley and Andrew Shafer started the final day of the tournament in fifth place. Despite trailing the leaders by 4 pounds, they knew they still had a shot at victory. Sibley Lake is full of trophy largemouth bass; it was just a matter of making them bite.

On day three Manley and Shafer sacked up the tournament’s heaviest catch – a 17-pound, 2-ounce limit. Their day-three stringer was nearly 4 pounds heavier than their first two days’ combined total of 13-5. Shafer caught all of his bass on a ChatterBait with a Lake Fork swimbait for a trailer. Manley used a spinnerbait for two of his fish and caught his last keeper on a Texas-rigged Speed Craw.

For their efforts, the Aggies won a Ranger 177TR with a 90-horsepower Evinrude or Yamaha outboard wrapped in school colors and $25,000 for Texas A&M University.

Rounding out the top five teams are Texas State University – Jay McCollum and David Cosner (13 bass, 27-9, $25,000); Tarleton State Texas – Tanner Morgan and John Anderson (15 bass, 25-1, $11,000); Northwestern State University – Aaron Sistrunk and Jeffrey Rich (15 bass, 21-11, $8,000); and Baylor University – Jay Holland and Andrew McAdams (16 bass, 20-10, $6,000). Each of the top five teams qualified for the National Guard FLW College Fishing National Championship, which will be held at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, Tenn., April 10-12, 2010.
