The Orvis Company Names McCready Company President

150 Year Old Company also Names Gowen Chief Operating Officer

The Orvis Companyโ€™s CEO Perk Perkins announced on Friday, March 23 the promotion of Ray McCready from Vice President of Merchandising and Retail to President of the 150-year old company.

Perkins noted in his announcement, which was made at the annual employees meeting in Manchester, VT, that McCready in his role as VP of Merchandising and Retail had been instrumental in the company achieving record profits during his 5-year tenure.

โ€œRay will be the first President of Orvis in our 150 year history who has not been an owner of the business, so obviously this is not a decision the board of directors took lightly, โ€ said Perkins. โ€œRay has a unique understanding of our brand, the loyalty and respect of our associates, and an exciting vision for the future of our company.โ€

Before joining Orvis, McCready was the Vice President of the International Division at Eddie Bauer where he served in a variety of capacities from 1979 to 2001.

โ€œOrvis is one of the last, true lifestyle brands in America,โ€ said McCready โ€œIt is an honor for me to take on this position. I look forward to further building the Orvis brand while respecting the history and the legacy of what brought us this far.โ€

Perkins also announced that Brian Gowen, the companyโ€™s Chief Financial Officer will now also take on the role of Chief Operating Officer. Gowen joined The Orvis Company in 2002 after serving as Co-President and Chief Operating Officer of Garnet Hill.

Perk Perkins will remain as Chief Executive Officer and Dave Perkins remains as Vice-Chairman. The Perkins family purchased the Orvis Company in 1965.
