Todd Hughes & Craig Morris WIN

Anglers Quest 2011 Livingston Saturday Series Championship is now in the books, and the Saturday Series for Lake Livingston is complete for 2011. The event began on Friday evening with dinner & drinks at Buster McNutty’s with the presentation of the special ” Anglers Quest Goal Post” to the new “2011 Anglers of the Year”, Larry Jenkins & Dale Hill, they will receive free paid entries to all 1st series A/Q Livingston Saturday Series Events in 2011. The Calcutta Auction followed and sold teams from $70 to $1200 and raised $7165.00 to add to the anglers pot. As at all Anglers Quest Championship auctions, there were several American Rodsmiths rods auctioned off to raise $ for the “Tournament of Champions” coming up at Lake Palestine in November.

The weather was clear and very nice on Saturday with mid 70’s at daybreak to low 90’s during the day with a light southerly breeze for the event on Lake Livingston. As the event got underway with the 22 qualified teams taking off into the dim morning light from their choice of launch ramps around the lake at 6:40 am. The anglers were all going for the $14,665.00 purse that was the payback by Anglers Quest at this Championship event. The water at Lake Livingston was changing almost by the hour and was at approximately 4 ft below normal pool level. At the end of day 1 the 22 teams brought in 15 limits of bass, 92 fish that totaled 239.55 lbs with a 2.60 avg. At the end of day 2 the 22 teams brought in 12 limits of bass, 71 fish that totaled 177.83 lbs with a 2.56 avg. All E. Texas lakes have very low water levels and it makes launching boats and navigating the waterways very hazardous for all the anglers. Very few launch ramps are still useable on the lakes.

After the 2 full days of competition the team of Wesley Johnson from Montgomery, Tx & Justin Buller from Willis, Tx brought in 10 bass at 26.19 lbs to collect the Power Pole $250 gift certificate.

Dean Coleman from Humble, Tx fished this event alone and brought in 9 bass at 26.70 lbs to claim 5th place and $450.00.

The Buster McNutty’s team of David Burns & Joey Martin from Livingston, Tx ran David’s Ranger all over lake Livingston and came to the scales with 10 bass at 27.27 lbs to give them a 4th place finish and collected $750.00. They did purchase their team in the Calcutta auction for $360.00 and laid claim to an additional $720.00 for their part of the Calcutta pot.

The father & son team of Brian & Chip Sewell from Coldspring ran their BassCat/Mercury bass rig to the south end of the lake to bring in a 10 bass limit at 27.48 lbs and claimed 3rd place and $1000.00. They did not purchase their team in the Calcutta auction for $1000.00 BUT Jeff Rood did and received a check for $1075.00.

The new Anglers of the Year team of Larry Jenkins & Dale Hill from Livingston, Tx brought in 10 bass at 30.00 lbs and claimed 2nd place and $1400.00. Larry & Dale did not purchase their team in the Calcutta auction for $410.00 BUT Jeff Rood did and received a check for $1790.00.

Morgan Burton & Randy McAdams did have the 1st BB of the event at a fine 6.76 lber and collected an additional $660.00 for that one bite.

The team of Todd Hughes from Goodrich, Tx & Craig Morris from Crosby, Tx ran their bass rig to mid & south lake areas in 4-22 ft water with wood & rocks around piers & docks and put together 2 nice limits of 10 bass that tipped the scales at 33.95 lbs to finish 1st in this event and collected $2800.00. They caught all their bass on tx rigged ole monster worms. They did purchase their team in the Calcutta auction for $160.00 and received an additional $3580.00 for their part of the Calcutta pot. Craig also landed the 2nd Big Bass of 5.80 lbs on day 2 for an additional $440.00 to give the team a total payday of $6820.00….not bad for a couple days of fishin, Good Job Guys!!
