Anglers Quest 2004 Tuesday Series Championship is now in the books, and the Tuesday Houston Series is complete for 2004. The event began on Friday evening with the presentation of the special Trophies to Anglers of the Year, the team of Greg Crawford & Jesse Johnson. They will receive free entries to all A/Q Tuesday Series Events in 2005. The Top 10 Angler Teams of the year were awarded Top 10 Plaques with the statistics of all 23 2004 Tuesday Series events engraved. Next, there was an auction of the graphite fishing rods donated from All Star Rods and the Check-It Stiks also donated from Keith Fields at Tournament Angler Accessories. The Big Bass pot auction, along with the $25 per man donated raised a Big Bass Pot totaling $1810.00. The Calcutta Auction followed and sold teams from $50 to $500 and raised $4225.00 to add to the anglers pot.

Lake Houston water was in good shape at 25 inch below normal pool. The weather was a bit rainy on day 1 with clouds and sunshine on day 2 with a steady 5-mph breeze on both days of the event but was incredibly nice as mid 70’s at daybreak to mid 80’s during the days. As Day 1 got underway with the playing of the national anthem, the 25 Qualified Teams took off into the dim morning light at 7:05 am going for the $13,090.00 purse which was the 97% payback promised by A/Q at all Championships.

Tony Hawk & Matt Cone from Humble, Tx brought 5 Bass to the scales to lead the way on day 1 with 12.55 lbs. Greg Crawford & Jesse Johnson from Huffman, Tx brought in 5 bass that tipped the scales at 12.50 lbs to hold down the 2nd spot on day 1. The team of Wade Byron from Humble & Mike Bernardic from Tomball, Tx brought 5 bass to the scales that weighed in at 12.21 lbs to grab the 3rd spot on day 1. The team of Randy Wagner from Spring & Larry Green from Kingwood, Tx had 5 bass at 11.66 lbs to hold down the 4th spot on day 1. The 5th spot on day 1 was filled by the team of Sammy Smith from Channelview & David Holst from Houston, Tx. They had 5 bass that tipped the scales at 11.10 lbs.

Day 2 was also started at 7:05 am by the national anthem. Day 2 weigh-in was exciting as the lead changed several times. Tony Hawk & Matt Cone brought 5 bass to the scales that weighed 12.57 lbs to give them a 2 day total of 25.12 lbs and the 1st place check totaling $3705.00 and the A/Q Goal Post Trophy’s. Tony & Matt failed to buy their team during the Calcutta auction on Friday night, Ricky Guy purchased them for $205.00 and received a 1st place Calcutta check for $1585.00.

Chris DiBerardino fished alone on day 1 and brought in 5 bass that weighed 9.45 lbs. Chris’s team partner Danny StAndrie returned to fish on day 2 to bring in another fine limit of 5 more bass at 15.56 lbs to give them a 2 day total of 25.01 lbs. They did buy their team in the auction and took home the 2nd place A/Q Plaques and $3032.50.

Jeff Jackowski & Steve Cross from Spring, Tx brought 5 bass on day 1 that tipped the scales at 9.85 lbs and another 5 bass at 14.01 lbs to the scales on day 2 to boost their 2-day total to 23.86 lbs and claimed the 3rd place A/Q plaques. Jeff & Steve also bought their team at the auction and received checks totaling $1905.00.

Larry Cotten & Ricky Guy brought in a total of 10 bass for 2 days and had 22.83 lbs and claim the 4th place A/Q Plaques and $705.00. Randy Wagner & Larry Green weighed in a total of 10 bass at 21.71 lbs over the 2 days and collected $350.00 and the A/Q plaques.

Sammy Smith & David Holst brought in the 2nd big bass on day 2, a fine 5.41 lber that paid them $543.00 for 1 bass caught on a black boogerman buzz bait. The Big Bass of the event was brought to the scales on day 1 by the team of Wayne Miller from Conroe & Terry Czarnowsky from Houston, Tx a fine 5.94 lber that was caught in Luces Bayou on a tx rigged black plastic worm. That one bite made Wayne & Terry a total of $1267.00.

Nearly all the bass were caught cranking small crank baits, throwing buzz baits or tx rigged plastic baits in 1-6 ft water all over the lake. Anglers Quest 2005 Schedules are now available online. All A/Q events in 2005 will be conducted on Lakes Conroe, Houston and Livingston.

The 1st event for the 2005 season will be the Saturday Team Series event on Lake Livingston, January 8, 2005 going out of Kickapoo Bait & Tackle with take off from North Shore Resort. Please call 281-852-8842 for entry or info.
