Anglers Quest 2005 Tuesday Series Championship is now in the books, and the Tuesday Houston Series is complete for 2005. The event began on Friday evening with the presentation of the special Trophies to Anglers of the Year, the team of Greg Crawford & Jesse Johnson. They will receive free entries to all A/Q Tuesday Series Events in 2006 for the second year in a row. The Top 10 Angler Teams of the year were awarded Top 10 Plaques with the statistics of all 23 2005 Tuesday Series events engraved. The Calcutta Auction followed and sold teams from $50 to $405 and raised $3630.00 to add to the anglers pot.
Lake Houston water was in good shape at normal pool. The weather was really nice with clouds and sunshine with a steady 5-10 mph breeze on both days of the event but was a bit nippy as mid 50’s at daybreak to low 80’s during the days. As Day 1 got underway with the playing of the national anthem, the 23 Qualified Teams took off into the dim morning light at 7:05 am going for the $11,120.00 purse which was the 97% payback promised by A/Q at all Championships.
Tony Hawk & Matt Cone from Humble, Tx brought 5 Bass to the scales to lead the way on day 1 with 10.13 lbs. Ricky Guy from Humble, Tx & Larry Cotten from Huffman, Tx brought in 5 bass that tipped the scales at 9.83 lbs to hold down the 2nd spot on day 1. The team of Randy Quin from Huffman & Bobby Behrend from Baytown, Tx brought 5 bass to the scales that weighed in at 9.26 lbs to grab the 3rd spot on day 1. The team of Mark Rouse from LaPorte & Doug Worzel from Humble, Tx had 5 bass at 9.14 lbs to hold down the 4th spot on day 1. The 5th spot on day 1 was filled by the team of Chad Vincent & Brian Burleson from Crosby, Tx. They had 4 bass that tipped the scales at 8.63 lbs.
Day 2 was also started at 7:05 am by the national anthem. Day 2 weigh-in was exciting as the lead changed several times. Tony Hawk & Matt Cone brought 5 more bass to the scales that weighed 10.88 lbs to give them a 2 day total of 21.01 lbs for the win, the 1st place check of $2870.00 and the A/Q Goal Post Trophy’s. Tony & Matt bought their team during the Calcutta auction on Friday night for $350.00 and received a 1st place Calcutta check for $1815.00 giving them a total payday worth $4,685.00.
Larry Cotten & Ricky Guy give it a valiant effort by bringing in 5 more bass on day 2 at 10.96 lbs to give them 20.79 lbs for 2nd place A/Q Plaques and a check for $1590.00. Larry & Ricky also bought themselves in the Calcutta auction and received another check for $1090.00 giving them a total payday of $2680.00.
Chris DiBerardino & Lil Chris DiBerardino from Humble, Tx brought in 4 bass that weighed 8.20 lbs on day 1 and then on day 2 brought a fine limit of 5 bass at 11.16 lbs to give them a 2 day total of 19.36 lbs. They did not buy their team in the auction and took home the 3rd place A/Q Plaques and $1805.00.Sammy Smith bought the DiBerardino’s in the Calcutta auction for $200 and received a check for $545.00.
Chad Vincent & Brian Burleson from Crosby, Tx brought 4 bass on day 1 that tipped the scales at 8.63 lbs and another 5 bass at 10.05 lbs to the scales on day 2 to boost their 2-day total to 18.68 lbs and claim the 4th place A/Q plaques and a check for $635.00.
Randy Quin from Humble, Tx & Bobby Behrend fron Baytown, Tx weighed in a total of 9 bass at 17.83 lbs over the 2 days and collected $325.00 and the A/Q 5th place plaques. David Wheaton & Tansley Bynog Sr brought in the 2nd big bass on day 1, a 3.59 lber that paid them $450.00 for 1 bass caught on a black c-rigged craw worm.
The Big Bass of the event was brought to the scales on day 2 by team DiBerardino’s, a 3.80 lber that Lil Chris reported his Dad caught it in the water. That one bite made them a total of $670.00.
Nearly all the bass were caught cranking small crank baits, throwing buzz baits or Texas rigged plastic baits in 1-6 ft water all over the lake.
Anglers Quest 2006 Schedules are now available online. All A/Q events in 2006 will be conducted on Lakes Conroe, Houston and Livingston.
