Von Strohe and Frerich Take C.A.S.T./South Tournament at Falcon Lake

Scott Von Strohe & his partner Janet Frerich of San Antonio made a final attempt to capture Anglers of The Year for this region as they charged into second place for 1999 by weighing a 5 fish limit of 13.60 lbs.

With a depressingly low lake level nearly 50′ below pool, the majority of fish seemed to be stacked either on rocky lake points taking parrott or firetiger colored crankbaits or soft plastics. Spinnerbaits worked around hardwoods in 3′-8′ of water took a share of legal fish too, but most of the couples filled their limits on the rip rap. Several boats reported culling fish as early as 8:00 am & catching up to 20 throughout the day. There had been some talk (or hopes) of seeing some 25 to 30 lb. bags come to the scales. Unfortunately, it wasn’t to happen on this day.

Von Strohe & Frerich had their sights & hearts set on the prestigious Angler of the Year title, but Robert & Robin McFarlane held onto that position as they had all year by weighing 5 fish for 13.03 (including Robert’s 4.65 that took the Men’s Big Bass Division) to finish in 3rd place just behind Rick & Frankie Dunlap with 13.45 lbs. Close behind the 3 top couples were Waylon & Karla Bullard with 11.37 for 4th, K.D. & Dessie North’s 11.00 lb. bag that took 5th, and Ron Carter & Debbie Hunter with 10.79 that locked up 6th place for this event.

TOP 6 COUPLES OF THE YEAR in the South Region ended up this way:
1) Robert & Robin McFarlane 4) Ron Carter & Debbie Hunter
2) Scott Von Strohe & Janet Frerich 5) Harvey & Dolline Holmes
3) Waylon & Karla Bullard 6) George & Carol Glasby

These couples were able to consistently stay in or near the Top 6 by refusing to miss a tournament all year, even though most of them had qualified for this years Classic (to be held at Lake Brownwood) long before this final tournament. It is surpportive & dedicated members like these & our wonderful statewide & local sponsors that make C.A.S.T. the number one couples circuit in the State of Texas. And we appreciate every one of them. For information about the C.A.S.T.
