Show concludes with crowning of top redfish team
Tune in Sunday to “Wal-Mart FLW Outdoors” on FSN for the $200,000 Wal-Mart FLW Redfish Series event held in Grand Isle, La., June 24-25. The second Western Division event of the $1.9 million FLW Redfish Series season concludes with the winning team claiming a cash prize of $37,500.
The “Wal-Mart FLW Outdoors” saltwater series is a reality-format show told from the anglers’ perspective. Each week the top-four teams are followed from takeoff to weigh-in, allowing the audience to feel the anglers’ nerves, listen to their strategy, and learn from their mistakes. The stories evolve and the suspense grows throughout the one-hour show until the final weigh-in results are announced.
The Sunday, Sept. 26, show follows Kurt Koliba of Port Lavaca, Texas, and Michael Shimek of Bay City, Texas, who led the event after the first day of competition with a pair of legal reds weighing 17 pounds, 1 ounce. This prolific duo placed second at the first FLW Redfish Series Western Division event at Port Aransas, Texas, and is poised for another high finish. Because of a restriction requiring the immediate release of all redfish over 27 inches, the two employ sight-fishing tactics with 1/2-ounce spoons.
Coming in second was Chris Chapman of Winter Park, Fla., and Dan McGatlin of Lake Mary, Fla. On day one, these pros catch two redfish that weighed 13 pounds, 11 ounces and sit only 6 ounces behind the leaders. Watch on day two as these Central Florida natives make a 35-mile run to Venice in search of the winning fish.
