Walmart Bass Fishing League Cowboy Division To Host Event On Red River

The Walmart Bass Fishing League is headed to the Red River Oct. 1-2 for its fifth and final stop in the Cowboy Division. This will be a two-day super tournament where as many as 400 boaters and co-anglers will be competing for top awards up to $11,000 and $4,500, respectively.

“Like all river systems, the Red River will be based on water conditions, meaning level and clarity,” said National Guard pro Mark Rose of Marion, Ark. “If everything is pretty normal, I would look for there to be some fish on the current breaks out on the main river.

“The shad should be moving toward the backs of creeks, so spinnerbaits should be pretty good,” Rose added. “It’s your traditional river system, so you will just have to fish the conditions.”

Takeoffs will be at the Grand Encore Recreation Area located at 1071 Tauzin Island Road in Natchitoches at 7 a.m. each morning. Saturday’s weigh-in will be at the marina beginning at 3 p.m., and Sunday’s final weigh-in is scheduled for 4 p.m. at the Walmart located at 925 Keyser Ave. in Natchitoches. Takeoffs and weigh-ins are free and open to the public.

The Cowboy BFL tournament is being hosted by the city of Natchitoches.

The BFL is a 24-division circuit devoted to weekend anglers, offering bigger prizes to those who qualify for regional championships and those who make it to one of the longest-running championships in all of competitive bass fishing – the Walmart BFL All-American presented by Chevy. Top winners in the BFL can move up to the EverStart Series or even the Walmart FLW Tour.
