The Walmart Bass Fishing League is headed to Pickwick Lake Sept. 24-25 for its fifth and final stop in the Mississippi Division. This will be a two-day super tournament where as many as 400 boaters and co-anglers will be competing for top awards up to $11,000 and $4,500, respectively.
“The fish won’t be as grouped as they are in June and July,” said National Guard pro Mark Rose of Marion, Ark. “They will be more spread out, but it will still be a really good tournament.
“Spinnerbaits will be big as well as early morning topwater stuff,” Rose added. “Shallow patterns will come into play a lot more than a deep bite; I look for it to be more of a shallow tournament in general. The weights will be a little down compared to June and July, but there will still be lots of fish; I think 16 pounds per day ought to do really well.”
Takeoffs will be at the JP Coleman State Park located at 613 County Road 321 in Iuka at 6:30 a.m. each morning. Saturday’s weigh-in will be at the marina beginning at 2:30 p.m., and Sunday’s final weigh-in is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. at the Walmart located at 1110 Battleground Drive in Iuka. Takeoffs and weigh-ins are free and open to the public.
The BFL is a 24-division circuit devoted to weekend anglers, offering bigger prizes to those who qualify for regional championships and those who make it to one of the longest-running championships in all of competitive bass fishing – the Walmart BFL All-American presented by Chevy. Top winners in the BFL can move up to the EverStart Series or even the Walmart FLW Tour.
