The Walmart Bass Fishing League is headed to Grand Lake Oct. 1-2 for its fifth and final stop in the Okie Division. This will be a two-day super tournament where as many as 400 boaters and co-anglers will be competing for top awards up to $11,000 and $4,500, respectively.
“Grand is probably fishing as well as it ever has,” said Mountain Dew pro Jason Christie of Park Hill, Okla. “You can catch them shallow or deep – anywhere from 20 feet to one foot deep.
“Guys should be able to catch them on shallow patterns with spinnerbaits, or out deep using Carolina rigs and crankbaits,” Christie added. “I would say 33 to 35 pounds will win the tournament for two days; there will be stacks in there from everyone, so it should be a good tournament.”
Takeoffs will be at the Grove City Ramp located at 1007 N. 16th St. W. in Grove at 7 a.m. each morning. Saturday’s weigh-in will be at the marina beginning at 3 p.m., and Sunday’s final weigh-in is scheduled for 4 p.m. at the Walmart located at 2115 S. Main St. in Grove. Takeoffs and weigh-ins are free and open to the public.
The Okie BFL tournament is being hosted by the Grove Area Chamber of Commerce.
The BFL is a 24-division circuit devoted to weekend anglers, offering bigger prizes to those who qualify for regional championships and those who make it to one of the longest-running championships in all of competitive bass fishing – the Walmart BFL All-American presented by Chevy. Top winners in the BFL can move up to the EverStart Series or even the Walmart FLW Tour.
