Walmart Bass Fishing League Savannah River Division To Host Event On Lake Russell

The Walmart Bass Fishing League is headed to Lake Russell Oct. 1-2 for its fifth and final stop in the Savannah River Division. This will be a two-day super tournament where as many as 400 boaters and co-anglers will be competing for top awards up to $11,000 and $4,500, respectively.

“Russell starts to get tough this time of year,” said Walmart FLW pro Troy Morrow of Eastanollee, Ga. “Spotted bass have really taken over the lake, and they will make up the majority of weigh-ins.

“Also, there are a lot of man-made brush piles, so if a guy can position those right, he might have a decent large-mouth sack,” Morrow added. “You could catch a limit of less than five pounds, but you could also have a 14-pound bag of all spots. Russell is capable of throwing out a 20-pound bag, but you probably won’t see it this time of year, so I would say 25 to 26 pounds for two days will probably win it.”

Takeoffs will be at the Richard B. Russell State Park located at 2650 Russell State Park Road in Elberton at 7:15 a.m. each morning. Saturday’s weigh-in will be at the marina beginning at 3:15 p.m., and Sunday’s final weigh-in is scheduled for 4 p.m. at the Walmart located at 955 Elberton St. Extension in Elberton. Takeoffs and weigh-ins are free and open to the public.

The Savannah River BFL tournament is being hosted by the Elbert County Chamber of Commerce.

The BFL is a 24-division circuit devoted to weekend anglers, offering bigger prizes to those who qualify for regional championships and those who make it to one of the longest-running championships in all of competitive bass fishing – the Walmart BFL All-American presented by Chevy. Top winners in the BFL can move up to the EverStart Series or even the Walmart FLW Tour.
