WOW! — It’s Really A $200,000 Check

Omori Wins Bassmaster Crown

If you watched Team Yamaha’s Takahiro Omori win yesterday’s 34th CITGO Bassmaster Classic Championship, you might think his broad smile couldn’t get any bigger.  But when Trip Weldon of ESPN/BASS delivered the championship prize check for $200,000 to Takahiro at a celebration following the weigh-in, his smile positively lit up the room.

Omori made BASS history as the first Japanese angler to win the Classic. He landed 15 bass during the three-day competition at Lake Wylie, SC, weighing 39-02 beating the nearest competitor by nearly three pounds.

Not only a fan favorite, but a favorite among fellow pro anglers, Omori is the third Yamaha pro angler in a row to win the Classic. Preceding Omori as Classic Champions were Michael Iaconelli in 2003 and Jay Yelas in 2003.

For more information on Omori, visit the Yamaha Outboard website and click to the Team Yamaha section where a trading card of Omori can be downloaded. Plus, there are video and audio fishing tips by Omori including several in Japanese.

Omori’s next tournament will be the FLW Championship in Birmingham, Al in mid-August.
