The National Boat Mart – TVA Bass Series held it’s fourth qualifying event of the year on Morse Reservoir and it was an event that found not too many anglers weighing in big bags of bass.
Marty Yoder of Brook, Indiana (Mr. Morse) won the event in style with a solid limit of bass weighing 9.20 pounds to pick up the victory spoils. “I was not sure what the weather had done to the fish so I started with what had been working for me, and found out that the weather had changed what the fish were doing. So we changed gears and water, and started keying on the shallow wood and weeds” commented Yoder. “I caught all of my fish on tubes made by Double Zero Custom Baits flipping and pitching to shallow wood and weeds. I only culled 1 time and lost count of the short fish” explained Yoder (the Morse Reservoir Guru) Yoder is sponsored by Double Zero Custom Baits and ISG (Innovative Sport Group).
In second place was Kokomo, Indiana’s Frank Brown with four bass that weighed 8.53 pounds. Brown’s bag of bass was also anchored with the events Big Bass, a 3.03 pounder.
Holding down a strong third place finish was Don Deerwester of DeMotte, Indiana. Deerwester weighed in a limit of bass weighing 8.49 pounds.
“My initial area was muddied up once again by rain. Two years in a row, what are the odds. I used last year as a guide and changed my tactics quickly to target fish that were relating to deep water. The fish I found were fairly concentrated in few areas and I had to keep coming back to them” said Deerwester. “I could only elicit reaction strikes from them with crankbaits. The bite was very light and cost me a couple of culling opportunities. Fishing was slow but steady as I caught fish throughout the day. Patience and confidence in my areas really paid off for me today” Deerwester said. Deerwester is sponsored by All-Walls., Crown Industrial Supply and Merrillville Awning Co.
Rounding out the Top-5 were Chris Clark of Lafayette 3 bass 4.03 pounds, Clark is sponsored by Lafayette Glass Company Mike Quaglio in 5 th place, with two bass weighing in at 3.76 pounds. Marty Yoder and Bill LaBeau were in second place with 5 bass weighing 9.20 pounds.
