A long time friend of Fishingwold, Jim Phillips, the Sr. Pastor of North Greenwood Baptist Church in Greenwood, MS and Mississippi North Central Director of the Fishers of Men National Tournament Trail, contacted us today to share the thrill he enjoyed yesterday while fishing a Skeeter Bass Champs Tournament.
Only 30 minutes into the tournament day and less than a mile from take off, Jim landed a 12.51lb “Big Sam Beauty”. It was caught fishing a Grande Bass Rattlesnake in watermelon red on a carolina rig out of 6 feet of water. “I was fishing a high speed Abu Garcia Revo reel spooled with 20 lb Vicious Pro Elite Fluorocarbon on the main line and 12 lb Vicious Fluorocarbon on the leader. The rod was a Kistler 7′ 3″ Carbon Steel Rod. It was rigged with a 3/4 oz. Strike King Tungsten weight and a 4/O Gamakatsu Round Bend hook”, reported Jim.
“My partner David Gregg and I were fishing deep rock and brush on a main lake point in David’s brand new FX21 Skeeter/250 hp Yamaha SHO. After I had taken the fish to an early weigh-in and then returned to the spot to continue fishing, it occurred to me that I had caught a 12.51 lb fish on 12 lb Vicious Fluorocarbon that was being dragged across rock after the hook set. Wow, I was so thankful for this great product! This was the largest bass I’ve caught in my life.”, he added.
“I want to thank Chad Potts and the Skeeter Bass Champs team for taking care of us at such an early start of the day. My only regret is that I didn’t take measurements to have a replica made. I wanted more than anything to get it returned to Sam Rayburn to continue her spawning activities with as little stress as possible.”
Jim wanted to thank all of his sponsors and say how grateful he is for making it possible for him to travel and fish around the country.
