Anglers Quest 2007 Tuesday Series Championship is now in the books, and the Tuesday Houston Series is complete for 2007. The event began on Friday evening with the presentation of the special Trophies to the Anglers of the Year team of Greg Crawford & Jesse Johnson. They will receive free paid entries to all A/Q Tuesday Series Events in 2008. The Calcutta Auction followed and sold teams from $95 to $895 and raised $8800.00 to add to the anglers pot.
Lake Houston water was in good shape at approximately 6″ below normal pool level. The weather was really nice with clouds and sunshine with a steady 5-10 mph breeze on both days of the event as mid 60’s at daybreak to high 80’s during the days. As Day 1 got underway with the playing of the national anthem, the 25 Qualified Teams took off into the dim morning light at 6:50 am going for the $16,750.00 purse which was the payback by Anglers Quest at this Tuesday Championship event.
The Superior Paint Works team of Wayne Miller & Tommy Swonke from Houston, Tx brought 5 Bass to the scales to lead the way on day one with 13.44 lbs. Wayne & Tommy had a fine 4.61 lber in their sack to nab the 2nd Big Bass honors at least until day 2.
Tommy Brooks & Lance Lyles from Houston, Tx brought in a fine sack of 5 bass that tipped the scales at 13.12 lbs to hold down the 2nd spot on day one.
The Team TIREMAX sponsored Ranger of Jason Reyes & Waylon Hull from Humble, Tx brought 5 bass to the scales that weighed in at 12.78 lbs to grab the 3rd spot on day one.
Another Team TIREMAX sponsored Ranger of Ricky Guy from Humble and Tommy Bankhead from Crosby, Tx had 5 bass at 11.67 lbs to hold down the 4th spot on day one.
The 5th spot on day one was filled by the team of Danny StAndrie from Huffman & Eddie Cash from Humble, Tx. Danny & Eddie had 5 bass that tipped the scales at 11.41 lbs.
Day one Big Bass leader was David Holst from Houston, Tx. David had a fine 4.75 lber and fished alone today as his partner Chris DiBerardino was at Sam Rayburn fishing a BFL event.
Day 2 was also started at 6:50 am by the playing of “God Bless the USA”. Day 2 weigh-in was exciting as the lead changed several times.
Greg Crawford & Jesse Johnson from Huffman, Tx brought 5 bass to the scales on day one that weighed 9.93 lbs. On day 2 Greg & Jesse brought in another 5 bass limit with a kicker bass that tipped the scales at 7.03 lbs and collected them the 1st Big Bass award of $750.00. Their total weight on day 2 of 17.79 lbs gave them a 2-day total of 27.72 lbs for the win, the 1st place check of $3015.00 and the A/Q Goal Post Trophy’s. Judy Crawford bought the team during the Calcutta auction on Friday night for $895.00 and received a 1st place Calcutta check for $3080.00 giving them a total payday worth $6845.00. They reported catching all their bass on the north end of the lake on piers with Jigs & small crank baits.
Team TIREMAX Jason Reyes & Waylon Hull from Humble, Tx give it a valiant effort by bringing in another 5 bass on day 2 at 13.12 lbs to give them a 10 bass limit of 25.90 lbs for 2nd place and a check for $1675.00. Tyson Schindler bought Jason & Waylon in the Calcutta auction for $800.00 and he received a check for $2200.00.
The Superior Paint Works Inc team of Wayne Miller & Tommy Swonke from Houston, Tx brought in another 5 bass that weighed 12.23 lbs on day 2 to give them a 2 day total of 25.67 lbs and the 3rd place check of $1005.00. They bought their team in the Calcutta auction for $380.00 and collected another check for $1760.00 making them a total payday worth $2765.00.
The TIREMAX sponsored team of Ricky Guy & Tommy Bankhead brought in another 5 bass limit on day 2 that tipped the scales at 13.64 lbs and boosted their total to 10 bass at 25.31 lbs to claim 4th place and a check for $670.00. Ricky & Tommy also bought their team in the Calcutta auction for $505.00 and collected their purse cut of $1320.00 to give them a $1990.00 payday.
The team of Tommy Brooks & Lance Lyles weighed in a total of 10 bass at 23.89 lbs over the 2 days and collected $335.00 for their 5th place finish. Tommy & Lance bought their team in the auction for $505.00 and received $440.00 for their purse cut making themselves a payday worth $775.00.
Mark Rouse from LaPorte & Doug Worzel from Humble, Tx brought in the 2nd Big Bass of the event that they reportedly caught on a tx rigged plastic worm. This one bite made them $500.00.
Nearly all the bass were caught cranking small crank baits, or flippin Texas rigged plastic baits in 1-6 ft water all over the lake.
Anglers Quest 2008 Schedules will be available real soon online. The 1st event for the 2008 season will be the Saturday Team Series event on Sam Rayburn January 5, 2008 going out of Mill Creek Park.
