23rd ANNUAL KCKL 95.9 FM BIG BASS TOURNAMENT

Another year of KCKL springtime bass fishing produced good action for the 900+ anglers venturing out on Cedar Creek for the 23rd Annual event. Great weather saw cool mornings followed by warming air and water temps which always gets the big fish moving. Just like in most previous Tournaments, the protected coves and pockets had many bass moving up feeding and scouting nesting sites for the spring spawn. Anglers reported good success on a wide variety of baits and fishing techniques ranging from bed fishing in the shallows, working rocks on the causeways, and pitching jigs to the deeper docks. A few nice fish also came in on white spinnerbaits this year. During the two days of competition, lucky anglers weighed in over 440 big bass which were released back into Cedar Creek Lake under the Texas Conservation Society sanctioned “live release program”.

Overall, over 140 cash prizes were paid to the tournament contestants making for quite a few happy anglers. Three lucky anglers also received $100 for even weight bass of exactly 3.00 lbs. Additionally, 26 Lady Anglers participated in this year’s event. To encourage family and youth participation, the Tournament offers a special $10 Entry Fee for those anglers under 16 years of age (they are still eligible for all other Tournament prizes). This year we had 46 Youth Division anglers. The Top Youth anglers each won $100.

True to tradition, the Saturday afternoon BBQ attracted many a hungry angler (free to the first 400 Entries). Each day after the 3:00 o’clock weigh in, over 30 great door prizes were awarded by random contestant drawing. Door Prizes included many of the popular 23rd Annual Tournament rods by Kistler Graphite Rods, Strike King Lure packs, a Daiwa rod/reel combo from Gander Mountain, and custom embroidered tackle bags from Sew’n Sam’s Custom Embroidery.

When the final weigh in hour closed at 3:00 O’clock on Sunday, Bill’s 8.37 lb. bass remained on top to win the 1st Prize of $6200. Additionally, Bill received a 2006 KCKL Tournament Champion Tackle Bag and Special Edition 2006 Champion KCKL Hat from Sewin Sam’s custom embroidery, plus a 23nd Annual KCKL Tournament Helium graphite rod by Kistler Custom Rods.
