Waylon & Karla Bullard crushed the competition at A-Team’s first Open Tournament of 2006 bringing a huge limit to the scales with a total weight of 30.96 lbs. Waylon and Karla Bullard took home $900.00 in cash and Academy Sports + Outdoors bonuses. This husband and wife team has been showing other teams how bass fishing is done on the border for years. Culling 5 pounders is nothing new or strange to them either. Karla took big bass money with a nice fish weighing in at 6.68 lbs. and the rest of their creel averaged 6.07 lbs for the remainder of their 5 fish limit. Karla was the one wielding the big stick on the lake today. Waylon said she managed to cull out the four 5 pound fish he had put in the livewell. They caught fish both shallow and deep but did not catch or fish for bedding fish.
Taking the second place money of $600.00 and also collecting bonus money from Academy Sports + Outdoors with a 5 fish limit weighing 22.75 lbs. were Brian and Bruce Davenport from Helotes and San Antonio, Texas, respectively.
Third place money of $450.00 and Academy bonuses went to Roy and Chris Strange from Odessa, Texas. Beginners luck is always a nice thing to have and Chris made the most of it. Fishing in her first ever bass tournament Chris brought two huge fish from their 5 fish limit to the scales, one being the second largest fish of the tournament an excellent bass weighing 6.66 lbs. She also had a second fish weighing over 6 lbs.
A-Team will be holding our next Open Tournament April 2nd, 2006 at Sam Rayburn Reservoir with weigh-in at the ramp at Twin Dikes Park. Teams interested in fishing this or any other A-Team Open Bass Tournaments during 2006 may enter by sending a printable entry form from www.ateambasstournaments.com or from www.fishingworld.com/A-Team along with a $150.00 entry fee to the addresses on the entry form or this website. A-Team officials will also have registration for the Sam Rayburn tournament at Ann’s Tackle Shop, 4200 N. Wheeler, Jasper, TX on April 1st from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. and at Academy Sports + Outdoors, 2912 Brentwood Dr., Lufkin, TX on April 1st from 10:00 until 5:00 p.m. All teams who enter more than one A-Team Open Bass Tournament on the 2006 schedule will automatically be eligible for invitation to the A-Team Championship Tournament, September 24th, 2006.
