Ross Reeder of Miami caught each of seven target species to win the 2011 Herman Lucerne Memorial Tournament that ended Sept. 25.
Anglers fished within the boundaries of Everglades National Park for snook, snapper, redfish, trout, tarpon, bonefish and black drum.
Reeder, whose seven fish totaled 221 inches, also earned the high-point angler title. He fished with Captain Chris Wilson of Merritt Island, Fla.
For the fourth consecutive year, the title of junior champion went to Ridge Murphy, who was guided by his father, Captain Rick Murphy of television’s “Sportsman’s Adventures” fishing show. They caught six species totaling 145 inches, including a 24.5-inch black drum that was the tournament’s largest.
Jake Turek of Tavernier, Fla., was the tournament’s top unguided male angler. Top unguided female angler was Miami’s Carmen Padron, with Kathy Gwilliam of Islamorada clinching the title of top guided female angler. She was guided by Captain Brian Gwilliam.
Fly division champion honors went to Rick Orcutt of Weston, Fla., guided by Pompano’s Captain Brian Esposito.
Fifty-four tournament anglers caught and released 216 fish. Redfish and snapper were the highest species tallied at 58 and 52, respectively.By: Andy Newman/Carol Shaughnessy
