The Bass Fishing League is headed to Lake Guntersville Oct. 2-3 for the Bama Division’s two-day Super Tournament. As many as 400 boaters and co-anglers will be competing for top awards of up to $11,000 and $4,500, respectively.
“Guntersville is fishing just like the typical Tennessee River system in September,” said National Guard pro Jonathan Newton of Rogersville, Ala. “Its tough. But there are a lot of fish being caught. Guys are using a lot of frogs and catching them on a jig. But it is a lot tougher in September. The weights have been down a good bit from what we’re used to.”
Takeoffs will be at Lake Guntersville State Park located at 7966 Ala. Highway 227 in Guntersville, Ala. Takeoff is scheduled for 7 a.m. each day while weigh-in will begin at 3 p.m. Saturday at Lake Guntersville State Park. Sunday’s weigh-in will be at 4 p.m. at Bob Hembree Chevrolet located at 11982 U.S. Highway 431 in Guntersville. Takeoffs and weigh-ins are free and open to the public.
The Lake Guntersville BFL tournament is being hosted by the Marshall County Convention and Visitors Bureau.
The top 40 boaters and 40 co-anglers based on point standings following the tournament will qualify for a regional championship where boaters will compete for a top award of a Ranger 198VX with a 200-horsepower Evinrude or Yamaha outboard and a Chevy pick-up, while co-anglers will fish for a new Ranger 198VX.
The BFL is a 24-division circuit devoted to weekend anglers, offering bigger prizes to those who qualify for regional championships and those who make it to one of the longest-running championships in all of competitive bass fishing – the BFL All-American presented by Chevy. Top winners in the BFL can move up to the FLW American Fishing Series or even the FLW Tour.
