The Bass Fishing League is headed to Lake Seminole Oct. 21-23 for a regional championship featuring the best anglers from the BFL’s Gator, Bulldog, Bama and Savannah River divisions.
“Bring a big flipping stick,” said FLW Tour pro Rusty Trancygier of Hahira, Ga., who loves fishing on Seminole. “It’s always tough fall fishing there, but the big ones are going to be caught flipping beavers, craws and I have even seen a couple caught with a frog too.
“The grass in Spring Creek is really good,” added Trancygier. “There is some standing timber down there too that can really turn the bite on depending on water temperatures. They just sprayed the grass near the Flint River and it’s not doing very well.
“Basically the fish are in transition now and are starting to chase the bait fish so they are a little bit more shallow and a little aggressive. Average weights to win this tournament are going to be 13 to 14 pounds, someone will probably bring in an 18 pound sack, but it is going to be pretty hard to duplicate.”
Takeoffs will be at Bainbridge Earle May Boat Basin located at 100 Boat Basin Circle in Bainbridge, Ga., beginning at 7:30 a.m. each morning. Thursday and Friday weigh-ins also will be at Earle May Boat Basin starting at 3:30 p.m. Saturday’s final weigh-in will be at Action GM located at 2501 East Shortwell St. in Bainbridge, Ga., at 4 p.m. Takeoffs and weigh-ins are free and open to the public.
The Lake Seminole BFL Regional tournament is being hosted by the Bainbridge Convention & Visitors Bureau.
The Top 40 boaters and 40 co-anglers based on point standings from their respective divisions qualified for the regional championship where boaters are competing for a top award of a Ranger 198VX with a 200-horsepower Evinrude or Yamaha outboard and a Chevy Pick-up, while co-anglers are fishing for a new Ranger 198VX with a 200-horsepower outboard.
The full field will compete the first two days of competition and the top 12 boaters and top 12 co-anglers advance to the final day of competition based on accumulated weight. The winners will be determined by the heaviest three-day catch. The top six boaters and top six co-anglers will advance to the BFL All-American presented by Chevy.
The BFL is a 24-division circuit devoted to weekend anglers, offering bigger prizes to those who qualify for regional championships and those who make it to one of the longest-running championships in all of competitive bass fishing – the BFL All-American. Top winners in the BFL can move up to the American Fishing Series or even the FLW Tour.
