Bobby and JoAnna Clark Win Season Opener on Granbury

A cool morning greeted the couples that come out to participate in the first tournament of the season with C.A.S.T. Metroplex Division. Fishing was tough for most of the couples. The weather and temperature at takeoff was clear with the temp in the middle 40’s with south winds blowing 10-15 mph and by 8:00 a.m. a cold front greeted the couples that turned the winds around to the north blowing 20-30 mph. At weigh-in the temperature did manage to reach the lower 60’s and stay sunny. However, the Metroplex Division couples can always manage to find a few fish during any weather conditions and on any lake we go to.

Our 1st place couple for the tournament was Bobby and JoAnna Clark of Azle, who managed to bring in 4 fish to the scales that weighed 14.59 lbs. to take home a check for $450.00. Bobby told the crowd that they caught their fish north in the river and south by the dam. Two fish were caught on Fat Free Chartreuse with blue back crankbaits and the other two were on black/blue jigs. Congratulations!

The 2nd place couple, John Staley and Page Cundiff of Granbury caught 3 fish and weighed in a total of 7.11 lbs. to take home a check for $275.00. John and Page finished second overall last year in the Metroplex Division so be aware. Third place couple, who is new members to C.A.S.T., James and Gail Quisenberry of Granbury, brought in 1 fish to the scales that weighed 3.56 lbs. that got them a check for $185.00. Great job and welcome to C.A.S.T. Finally, our 4th place couple, Larry and Pam Maddux from Joshua, caught 1 fish weighing in at 3.06 lbs. to take home a check for $150.00. Good job Larry and Pam and welcome back.

BIG BASS RESULTS:A 6.44 lb. Bass was overall big bass of the tournament. The lucky couple who caught this hawg was also Bobby and JoAnna Clark of Azle. Bobby caught thisfish up the river off a laydown on a jig. The Clark’s received a check for $60.00 for that fish. Nice Fish! Our second place big bass was a 3.51 lb. Bass who was caught the James and Gail Quisenberry. They received an additional $40.00 to add to there third place overall finish. Congratulations!

NEXT EVENT INFORMATION:C.A.S.T. Metroplex Division will be heading North to Lake Lewisville on March 9th. Registration and weigh-in will be held at Tower Bay boat ramp located near Sneaky Pete’s. Directions: Take I-35E and go north towards Denton. Take the Highland Village exit. Go over the railroad tracks and immediately turn left. Stay straight and you will run into the boat ramp.Registration will start at 5:00 a.m. by the ramp. Approximate take-off time will be between 6:30 7:00 a.m. Lake Lewisville is a few feet down and can be a little dangerous if not familiar with the lake.

Fishing on Lake Lewisville should be pretty good. It has to be better than Granbury. The weather and water temperature should be warmer which should make the fish a little friskier. Lures that possible might work at Lake Lewisville are lipped and lipless crankbaits, jigs, worms. Fish these baits listed above off points and laydowns would be a good choice.

The C.A.S.T. Classic will held this year on Lake Texoma on October 11, 12, and 13th. Unofficially, weigh-in will be at Loe’s Highport. Couples, I highly suggest to make your reservations now if planning to attend. Remember that all you have to do to qualify if fish all six events or accumulate 250 points.

Couple of the year race is under way and Bobby and JoAnna Clark take the early lead. With five remaining tournaments left it is really too early to tell how the race will be at the end. Good luck to you all and do not get discouraged. We are all here to have fun, enjoy the sport of bass fishing, meeting and making new friends.
