Dawes to appear with Berkley pro Hank Parker on Versus Network
Jonathan Dawes, a 13-year-old Boy Scout from Tacoma, Washington, and his father, Daniel, flew to Montgomery, Alabama, to fish with legendary angler Hank Parker.
Jonathan, who has the Life Scout rank, participated in a fishing contest at the 2010 National Scout Jamboree, and he caught a 5-pound, 1-ounce catfish that earned him an all-expenses-paid fishing trip with Berkley pro Parker.

“This is one of those trips you never forget,” Dawes said. “Mr. Parker showed me the ropes of bass fishing, and I caught my first bass ever. I will never forget this trip, and I was thrilled to have my dad there with me.”

The summer jamboree celebrated the 100-year anniversary of the Boy Scouts of America. The event at Fort A.P. Hill in Virginia and was attended by more than 30,000 Scouts, 9,000 staff, and more than 30,000 visitors. Parker was thrilled with the time he got to spend with Dawes.
?
“This was one of the best shows I’ve ever filmed,” Parker said. “Jonathan was great to fish with. The show will air this spring on the Versus network. It will show how exciting fishing can be for first-time anglers. All we have to do is spend a little time showing them the ins and outs of how to catch fish. Everyone wins.”
?
“Jonathan was taught many different bass fishing tactics by Hank,” said David Lund, Pure Fishing Vice President of Marketing? The Americas. “They fished with our Berkley Flicker Shads, PowerBait Heavy Weight Worms, and Power Worms. Pure Fishing is excited to be teaching fishing to youth with the Boy Scouts of America, and we look forward to working with them in years to come.”
?
Pure Fishing developed programs with the BSA to create a stronger fishing presence at the jamboree. Pure Fishing operated educational exhibits such as the Berkley PowerBait Fish Tank, a fishing line knot tester, and casting technique demonstrations. It also provided custom Stren knot-tying cards for all participants. Scouts earned a one-of-a-kind, special-issue Fish Hook Lake patch by catching a fish during the jamboree.
