Cedar Creek winners, John and Tawny Larsen, Don’t Pre-Fish, take Point Leaders also

Strong winds, heavy rains, constant lighting and thunder had Tommy and me out of bed and looking out the motel window most of the night just a few hours before our Cedar Creek tournament was to begin. We knew that if this kind of weather were to remain in full force during Sunday morning, the CAST Northeast Cedar Creek tournament would have to be called off. Never in our 16 years of existence, have we ever called off a tournament.

As the hours moved forward, the weather began to settle and the contestants made ready for take off. In spite of dark clouds and lighting in the distance the CAST Northeast Cedar Creek tournament began in its normal orderly fashion. At safe light with all the boats bobbing on the water a booming voice could be heard coming from the speaker system, “Boat number one “.

The couples then begin idling past the check-off boat for live well inspection. They continued idling past the bright orange take-off jugs where each began roaring off to that secret fishing place that they had dreamed about all night. All though, most of the couples said that they had not slept at all last night worrying about the storms! Yet, once again our Lord proved to be Mightier and Greater than even Mother Nature. As the last boat number was called the day was transformed into one of the most absolutely gorgeous days that anyone could ever ask for when fishing. The conditions just became perfect and stayed that way during the entire tournament

If you were looking for a couple that is on a hot streak, you need to look no further than John and Tawny Larsen from Grand Prairie. They went from taking 2nd place at the CAST Northeast Bob Sandlin tournament last month to taking 1st place at this month’s Cedar Creek tournament? Using their Quantum Rods and Reels spooled with Berkley Big Game line; the couple used a, Lucky Craft Lure in chartreuse. John and Tawny Larsen took first place honors with a five fish limit weighing 12.74 lbs. Most of their fish came from 2-4 feet of water from the deeper banks. John and Tawny are in their second year of fishing CAST and it looks like they’ve got the craft down. By the way folks, on their way out I asked if they had pre-fished. John said, “No, they had not been on the lake in a year.” It just goes to prove that the key to winning tournaments is not necessarily in pre-fishing. How about selecting the proper lures and then just the “know how” of fishing. Congratulations, John and Tawny.

Second place winnings were taken home by Terry and Marilyn Tanner of Gun Barrel City with 11.52 lbs using a white 1/4oz. Horizon spinner bait and the third place honors went to Terry and Bonnie Johnson from Coppell who were using Eagle Claw hooks and Berkley power worms to weigh in 11.31 lbs.

Rounding out the top six teams and the Big Bass winners are:
