Anglers Quest 2010 Houston Weekend Team Series #9 out of Lake Houston Marina in Huffman, TX began this event with 40 teamed anglers showing up to fish for the $2725.00 purse. This event got started at 6:45 am after the playing of the National Anthem. The weigh in was conducted at 3:15 pm. This Houston Weekend Team Series after all 9 events will provide Tony Hawk & Jeremy Murray with the Team Anglers of the Year award with free entries to all 2011 Houston Weekend Team Series events.
The teams qualifying for any championship will automatically qualify for all 4 lake series Championships. Top 25 in pounds from any Weekend Team with 5 events entered will also qualify for championships. If your team qualified for any A/Q Championship you will also qualify to go to the 2-day “Tournament of Champions” on November 13-14 on Lake Palestine.
Lake Houston water was in good shape and at about normal pool level with water temps ranning 86-88 degrees. The weather at takeoff was a very calm 71 degrees with a warming to 92 degrees by weigh in time. The fish catching was very good on Lake Mud today as there were 13 limits brought to the scales, for a total of 74 bass at 173.14 lbs making the average bass brought to the scales today weigh 2.33 lb.
The team leading for “Angler of the Year”, Tony Hawk & Jeremy Murray held off the final charge of Dean Coleman & Jimmy Emmons Jr and will receive the free entries to the Lake Houston Saturday Team Series in 2011.
The Team of Chris DiBerardino from Huffman & Albert White from Houston ran Chris’s Bass Guard wrapped BassCat/Mercury bass rig north & south to creek areas with laydowns & brush to catch their bass flipping jigs and throwing small cranks in 1-6 ft of water. Chris & Albert managed to catch 10-12 keepers to finish in 1st place with the best 5 that tipped the scales at 16.30 lbs. They made $1200.00 for their day on the water.
The Tiremax team of Larry Cotten from Huffman & Ricky Guy from Humble ran Ricky’s Tiremax wrapped BassCat/Evinrude bass rig to north lake areas to probe shallow brush with their American Rodsmiths & H & H rods & Shimano reels to catch their bass flipping tx rigged worms and throwing small cranks and spinner baits in 1-6 ft of water. They managed to catch a couple of limits of keepers to finish in 2nd place with the best 5 that tipped the scales at 14.70 lbs. Their day on the water paid them $700.00.
The one man team of Chuck McClurkin ran his Triton/Mercury bass rig to north lake docks & piers with brush to finish in 3rd with his best 5 bass, caught with a variety of lures that weighed in at 14.38 lbs. He also had the Big Bass of the event at 4.63 lbs. Chuck’s day on the lake payed back $500.00 for his efforts.
Chuck also owned one of the Bass Guard culling systems and collected an additional $25.00 for his Big Bass.
The new Angler of the Year team of Tony Hawk & Jeremy Murray ran their bass rig to north & south lake docks & piers to finish in 4th with their best 5 bass, caught on their American Rodsmiths rods & reels tipped with a variety of lures that weighed in at 12.09 lbs. Their day on the lake payed back $200.00 for their efforts.
The team of David Wheaton & Tansley Bynog Sr would have received the 1st place out of the money Santone & ZZ Lures Gift Certificates with 5 bass at 11.76 lbs but they were not present at the awards ceremony…..sooo they were awarded to James Chandler & Sandro Alfaro for their catch of 11.63 lbs.
