Coming Up In Walmart BFL Competition weekend of August 3rd.

WHAT: The 2013 Walmart BFL season continues with three tournaments on Saturday, Aug. 3. The Michigan division will fish Lake St. Clair, the Northeast division will visit Lake Champlain and the Buckeye division will take on the Ohio River. Up to 400 boaters and co-anglers will be competing in each event for top awards up to $8,000 and $3,000 respectively.
WHEN: Saturday, Aug. 3, 2013
WHERE: Buckeye Division — Ohio River
Maysville River Park — Main Street
Maysville, Ky.
NOTES: Bass fishing on the Ohio River is expected to be tough; catching a five-bass limit will be a challenge. The anglers will likely spread out their efforts between fishing main-channel current breaks and shallow backwater cover. Jigs, topwaters, square-bill crankbaits and finesse baits will be utilized by much of the field. The winning weight will likely be around 10 pounds.
WHERE: Michigan Division — Lake St. Clair
Harley Ensign DNR Memorial Boat Launch
32995 South River Road
>Mount Clemens, Mich.
NOTES: Fishing on Lake St. Clair is expected to be very good. Anglers will likely use drop-shot rigs, tubes, crankbaits and jerkbaits to boat heavy limits of smallmouth. Most of the fish will be caught on offshore weed beds and structure, so the wind will be a major factor in the anglers’ decisions. The winning weight is expectedto be around 22 pounds.
WHERE: Northeast Division — Lake Champlain
Dock Street Landing — 5 Dock St.
Plattsburgh, N.Y.
NOTES: Fishing on Lake Champlain is expected to be excellent. The competitors will have the opportunity to choose between fishing for largemouth in weedy bays or smallmouth on offshore structure. As is usual with Champlain, the wind will be an important factor in determining whether anglers can execute their game plan. Expect competitors to utilize jigs, frogs, Texas rigs, drop-shot rigs, tubes, and jerkbaits during the event. The winning weight is expected to be between 18 and 20 pounds.

The BFL is a 24-division circuit devoted to weekend anglers, with 120 tournaments throughout the season, five in each division. The top 40 boaters and co-anglers from each division qualify for a regional tournament and are competing to finish in the top six, which then qualifies them for one of the longest-running championships in all of competitive bass fishing – the Walmart BFL All-American presented by Chevy. Top winners in the BFL can move up to the EverStart Series or even the Walmart FLW Tour.
