The weather leading into the second event of the season had deteriorated all week as was more like winter than spring. The conditions at tournament time was 32 degrees and a bit of snow was falling. The wind was blowing hard at 25-35 miles an hour making the day cold from start to finish. It would make fishing a challenge for sure.
The team of Ray Call and Don Deerwester put the pieces of the puzzle together and brought in a 5 fish limit of largemouth bass weighing 9.58 pounds. The fishing for them was good and they were culling by 9:00am. The team fished both main river and backwater areas and concentrated on getting reaction strikes with the weather wreaking havoc on the fishing conditions. The 2004 KRTC Anglers of the Year are back on top in the Angler of the Year race being tied for 1st. Deerwester is sponsored by: All-walls, Awningguy, crown industrial supply, JV custom baits, Kinami baits, Merrillville Awning co., TD support services.
Finishing in second was Mark Noell. Fishing alone, he brought in a limit of bass weighing 6.73 pounds. Fishing soft plastics was the key for Noell.
The team of Dave and Ron Call finished in third with 2 bass weighing 5.58 pounds. They also took home big bass honors with a largemouth weighing 4.64 pounds.
Rounding out the top 5 was the team of Mark and Jeff Opolski with one bass weighing 2.27 pounds. In fifth place was the team of Gary Call and Rob Rendant with one fish that weighed 2.19 pounds.
The next event will be on May 7 at the Kankakee Marsh ramp.
