Two Alabama Lakes Featured Saturday on ESPN2
ESPN2 Outdoors programming continues this weekend, highlighted by the second episode of the ESPN Outdoors Saltwater Series presented by TakeMeFishing.org on Sunday, April 12, at 8:30 a.m. ET. Fishing fans will also receive a healthy dose of freshwater programming with two well-known bass fisheries in Alabama featured Saturday on The Bassmasters (Wheeler Lake) and World’s Greatest Fishing Show (Lake Guntersville).
This week’s episode of the ESPN Outdoors Saltwater Series covers the 2008 Redbone SLAM Celebrity Tournament from Key West, Fla., in which two-angler teams compete to land the most bonefish, permit and tarpon, with the help of experienced local guides. ESPN Outdoors personality Jose Wejebe hosts the episode, as viewers are introduced to the unique lifestyle of saltwater fishing enthusiasts and the culture of Key West.
The Bassmasters, set for Saturday, April 11, at 9 a.m. ET on ESPN2, details Tommy Biffle’s victory at the Evan Williams Bourbon Dixie Duel on Wheeler Lake out of Decatur, Ala. The Elite pro from Wagoner, Okla., found a secluded and shallow cove on Wheeler Lake where he flipped and pitched his way to his fourth BASS title. ESPN Outdoors personalities Mark Zona and Tommy Sanders will analyze Biffle’s approach and winning pattern.
In keeping with the Alabama theme, Lake Guntersville is the backdrop for Saturday’s World’s Greatest Fishing Show, set for Saturday at 8:30 a.m. on ESPN2. Host Mark Zona is joined by Bassmaster Elite Series pro Davy Hite of Ninety Six, S.C., and the two are immediately challenged to find fish while the water is at about 39 degrees. Zona and Hite, a two-time Toyota Tundra Bassmaster Angler of the Year and the 1999 Bassmaster Classic champion, encounter duck hunters, pranks, challenging conditions and more.
Going Coastal, on Sunday at 7:30 a.m. on ESPN2, features the excitement of fly-fishing for blue sharks with host Byron Velvick. Velvick, a Bassmaster Elite Series pro, teams up with Capt. Conway Bowman, a professional fly-fishing guide who hunts sharks. Setting out from San Diego, Velvick fly-fishes for the first time, sight-casting to 150-pound blue sharks.
ESPN Outdoors continues to provide the best how-to outdoors programming featuring industry luminaries, experts, athletes and celebrities.
