A pair of fly-fishing icons, Stu Apte and Flip Pallot, lead this weekend’s ESPN2 Outdoors programming in the inaugural season of the ESPN Outdoors Saltwater Series presented by TakeMeFishing.org. The fifth episode, set for Sunday, May 3, at 8:30 a.m. ET, will feature the Redbone Celebrity Tournament from Savannah, Ga.
Anglers were challenged by a biting cold front in this historic seaport, however they persevered by catching a slew of redfish and sea trout. The tournament features teams of two anglers with an experienced local guide with each team earning a set amount of points per catch. Host Jose Wejebe gives his perspective on the unique lifestyle of saltwater fishing and explores the culture of Savannah on the ESPN Outdoors Saltwater Series.
The Madfin Shark Series 2009 championship is set for Sunday at 9 a.m. on ESPN2 where the final two teams battle it out for the title. The shark fishing tournament rewards points to each team for catching the most sharks at more than 5 feet in length.
ESPN Outdoors personality Mark Zona heads west to California’s Clear Lake to fish with 2009 Bassmaster Classic champion Skeet Reese of Auburn, Calif., on the World’s Greatest Fishing Show set for Saturday, May 2, at 8:30 a.m. on ESPN2. Reese, also the 2007 Toyota Tundra Bassmaster Angler of the Year, grew up and learned to fish tournaments on the popular lake and takes Zona out to some of Reese’s memorable spots for this weekend’s show.
A Day on the Lake, on Saturday at 8 a.m. on ESPN2, features Bassmaster Elite Series pro Bill Lowen of North Bend, Ohio. Lowen has just one day to catch bass on a lake he has never fished and tries to develop a pattern on a 40,000-acre lake affected by dropping water levels and water temperature fluctuations.
