Fort Worth Couple, Robert & Sherry Moore, Win It All with First Place & Big Bass.

It was very cloudy, very dark, very wet and a very, very long launching line that greeted the Northeast CAST couples for their 5th tournament of the year at Lake Tawakoni. Grateful that the all night downpour had temporarily subsided for launching and take-off, the couples were fully aware of the forecast for the dayMORE RAINPOETENTIAL STORMS. And that’s exactly what happened–light rainheavy rainlots of rain–all tournament long. As the couples drew together drenched with rain, the checks were given out one by one without any ink smearing. Both Barbara, who wrote the checks, and the couples, who received the checks, were thankful. What an experience for us all.

As Robert and Sherry Moore of Fort Worth, braved the weather conditions with confidence in their new Ranger Boat rigged with a Mercury Outboard, they were able to land 1st place with their 5 fish limit, all-alive weighing in at 12.49lbs. Soaked from the rain all day, Sherry refused to have her picture taken. [Isn’t that just like a woman; however, she did take the check!!!]. Robert of course could not keep himself from “stepping up to the plate” with his first place plaque and posing for a picture of himself and their winning catch. Can you blame him? Robert and Sherry caught most of their fish shallow, as you would expect with the overcast conditions. They used a variety of baits including Horizon spinner baits and a Lucky Craft crank bait.

Maturing into a very competitive lady angler, Edwina Harper, and her husband, Charlie, who readily said, “I taught her everything she knows about fishing,” won 2nd place for their catch. Their 5 fish limit weighed in at 11.89lbs. Most of their fish came on Berkley power worms.

Terry and Bonnie Johnson from Coppell, who pinned down 3rd place, brought in fish weighing 9.98 lbs. They also caught several of their fish on Horizon spinner baits.

Robert Moore landed the big bass of the tournament, which weighed in at 4.19lbs. Completing our list of top six Lake Tawakoni winners is as follows:

4th placeRonnie and Pam Wilson9.96 lbs.
5th placeWayne and Joyce Helberg9.43 lbs.
6th placeRonnie and Tonda McComic9.28 lbs.

While registering Saturday for the tournament at the Anchor Inn Store on Lake Tawakoni, we were all doing what we like best in fishing a CAST tournament–laughing, talking and just having great fun. All of a sudden to all our surprise, the adjoining door flung open and the restaurant manager and other customers came up to our registration table. As we quieted down, one of the men said, “We want to come over here and see what’s going on. You people are just having too much fun. All we’re doing is just eating.” We all looked at each other, invited them over and began to laugh even louder. You see folks, nobody fishing in this world can truly understand the fellowship we share in the CAST organization. If you like to fish and laugh or laugh and then fish, there’s a place for you in CAST. Check our website www.fishcast.com and call any CAST Director. They’ll be more than happy to be of service to you. CAST is successful because of YOU, the couples who fish the CAST tournaments circuits. YOU are the ones who bring to CAST the best and most generous sponsors in the fishing industry.

Speaking of sponsors, the Lake Tawakoni tournament was sponsored by The Fishing Store in Garland, owned and operated by Ralph and Jeanette Anderson. For more information about The Fishing Store, log on to the CAST website, click on the Northeast Region and then click on the Lake Tawakoni tournament sponsor.

Let us not forget our other very fine sponsors who are supporting CAST this year, since without them CAST would not be what it is today: Ranger Boats and Ranger Trail Trailers, Quantum Rods and Reels, Mercury Outboards, MotorGuide Trolling Motors, Trailer Armor, Berkley Products, Luxor Custom Jewelers, Continental Batteries, Eagle Claw Fishing Tackle, The Shad Connection/ Discount Marine Supplies, J & G Enterprises, Horizon Lure Co., Lucky Craft Baits. And remember to always support those who support CAST.

Our next Northeast CAST tournament will be at Lake Fork. We will headquarter out of Axton’s Marina, owned and operated by Joe and Susie Axton. Registration will be from 3 to 5, Saturday, July 15th and early Sunday morning, July 16th at Axton’s. When registering for a room, shopping in the store or just eating at the restaurant, make sure to tell them you’re from CAST.By: Tommy & Barbara Taylor / C.A.S.T.
