Sunday February 14th saw a chilly start for the second C.A.S.T. south region tournament of the year held on Lake Amistad near Del Rio, Texas. With temperatures hovering in the lower thirties and a stiff ESE wind at 15 MPH had our couples snuggling in their boats of the Diablo East cove waiting for the start . As boat numbers were called out , most of the teams headed out for the long run way up river to find active fish, while a few of us sat in the launch cove with stubborn starting outboards and other mechanical difficulties .
As the sun rose so did the wind speed, now 15 to 20 MPH and gusty , making it a grueling job on the trolling motor. By 3 O’Clock all the couples returned from their long trek up river through rough seas caused by the relentless high wind .After it was all said and done, 61 fish crossed the scales, for a total weight of 154.84 pounds .
First place honors went to the team of Garrett & Lauren Kempt with 17.37 lbs. Lauren also had Ladies big bass weighing 6.14 lbs “Way To Go Lauren !” Second place went to Robert & Robin McFarlane with a total weight of 16.24 lbs. 3rd Jim & Cheryl Edwards 14.12 lbs, 4th Bill & Mary Langenburg 11.72 lbs , 5th Robby & Dawne Robinson 11.22lbs# and 6th place went to Rick & Frankie Dunlap with 10.70 pounds. Rick had men’s big bass of 6.76 lbs “Good Fish Rick !”
In talking to those who had caught good fish they said the bait of choice was ” White & White/Chartreuse Terminator Spinnerbaits and Red Shad Power Worms flipped into timber and worked off ledges, Way Up River “.
Next tournament will be at Choke Canyon , March 7th . Headquarters is the Bass Inn . See Ya All There !
