Hi, I’m Greg Carpenter, a Yamaha Pro from Hot Springs, Arkansas,. In the last 2 and a half years on Lake Ouachita, the hydrilla has moved into the lake real thick and we have never experienced this on our home lake before. Like I said, 2 and a half years of it, it just gradually came in , and in 2 and a half years it’s now everywhere. Because it is so thick, it takes time to fish in that kind of pattern, and I’ve probably worked on that pattern for I’d say 6 months.
The pattern that has adapted is flipping an ounce or an ounce and a quarter jig, in the thick mat of the hydrilla. That is by far one of my favorite ways to catch fish. I fished all my life and never knew you could catch fish doing this. Catching fish out of 20 feet of water, straight down underneath the boat, with a one-ounce jig and a power pro line is pure excitement. When the fish hits it, you just pull him up through all that grass and we’re doing this with 50-pound test line. It’s just an awesome way to catch fish.By: Walker Agency
