Ice Tips by Larry Whiteley

If you use minnows when you ice fish, don’t get to anxious. Let the fish move away and take it in first, then set the hook.

Tie your lure or bait hook directly to your line with a swivel a foot or so above it. The swivel will keep your line from twisting and interfering with the action of the bait or lure.

Jigging spoons usually have the hook on the fatter end and you tie your line to the thinner end. Reversing that will cause the lure to flutter more and keep it from dropping too fast.

Don’t let your fish freeze out on the ice unless you have a way of keeping them froze. If they thaw out and you re-freeze them when you get home, they will lose a lot of their flavor.
