Joe New & David Driesel WIN! A/Q Super Team Championship

Anglers Quest 2005 Super Team Series Championship is now in the books, and the Super Team Series is complete for 2005. The event began on Friday evening with the presentation of the special Trophies to Anglers of the Year, Greg Crawford & Jesse Johnson, they will receive free entries to all A/Q Super Team Series Events in 2006. The Top 10 Angler Teams of the year were awarded Top 10 Plaques with the statistics of all 7 2005 Super Team Series events engraved. The Calcutta Auction followed and sold teams from $110 to $310 and raised $1910.00 to add to the anglers pot.

The Lake Livingston Area Tourism Council treated all team championship anglers and their families to a very good meal of old fashion sausage roll-ups and all the trimmings at the meeting & Calcutta auction at Kickapoo Bait & Tackle on Friday evening.

The weather was clear and high 80’s at daybreak to high 90’s during the day for the Saturday part of the event with heat index reaching 110 degrees. After an overnite storm blew through the area, Sunday started out to be a very nice day at 72 degrees and the temp only rose to 88 degrees for the day making it a very nice day to be on the water.

As Day 1 got underway with the teams leaving their ramps of choice at 6:35 am going for the $6360.00 purse which was the 97% payback promised by A/Q at all Championships. Lake Livingston water was in very good shape going into the event on day 1 and was about 15″ below normal, but the teams still brought in 5 limits of bass, 40 fish that totaled 83.70 lbs.

Day 2 on Lake Livingston produced 3 limits 37 fish-81.06 lbs and a 2.19 avg weight. After both days were complete their were 77 total bass caught with 8 limits-164.76 lbs and a 2.13 overall average weight.

Donnie & Juanita Robinson from Highlands, Tx fishing from their Skeeter/Yamaha bass rig brought in the heaviest 5 bass limit on day 1 at 12.79 lbs. Ricky Bearden Sr & Ricky Bearden Jr from Willis, Tx fished from their ProCraft/Mercury bass rig and on day 1 and held down the 2nd spot a limit of 5 bass at 11.41 lbs. Greg Crawford & Jesse Johnson from Huffman, Tx held down the 3rd spot on day 1 with another nice limit at 11.18 lbs. Steve & Josh Cross both from Spring, Tx brought in 5 bass at 10.03 lbs to hold down the 4th spot on day 1. Larry Cotton & Sammy Smith rounded out the top 5 on day 1 with a limit of 5 bass that tipped the scales at 9.98 lbs.

Day 2 weigh-in was to be exciting as over half the teams from day 1 still had a shot at winning the event. 5th place was claimed by Larry Cotten & Sammy Smith. They weighed a 2 day total of 7 bass at 17.62 lbs to claim the A/Q plaques and $250.00. Larry & Sammy also claimed the 1st Big Bass check of $360.00 by weighing in a 4.42 lber on day 2. The 2005 Anglers of the Year Team of Crawford & Johnson brought in 5 bass on day 2 to boost their 2-day total to 18.13 lbs and claim the 4th place A/Q plaques and $350.00. Robinson & Robinson brought in 9 bass during the 2 days to boost their total to 19.18 lbs and claim 3rd place A/Q plaques and $932.00. Bearden Sr & Bearden Jr gathered 2nd place with a 2 day total of 9 bass at 20.17 lbs. and collected the A/Q plaques and $1473.00.

Joe New from Spring, Tx & David Driesel from Houston, Tx fished from their Witt Marine sponsored Triton/Evinrude and put together 9 bass for 2 days that tipped the scales at 20.52 lbs to win this event. One of their bass was the 2nd big bass of the event, a fine 4.39 lber. Joe & David caught their bass on the north and south end of Lake Livingston on pop-r’s and jigs using Kistler rods. For their win Joe & David pocketed $2995.00 and the A/Q Goal Post Trophies.
