Anglers Quest 2007 Super Team Series #2 blasted off at 6:35 am on Lake Sam Rayburn with 82 teamed anglers showing up to go for the all cash purse of $6480.00. This Series will provide the “Team Anglers of the Year” with free entries to all 2008 Super Team Series events. The Super Team Series Championship will be a 2 day event held on Sam Rayburn for the Top 25 in points or any team entering all 5 events on June 30-July 1, 2007, this will be a no entry fee championship with $5000 guaranteed going to the winner. Top 7 from this Series will advance to the “Tournament of Champions” which will again be held on Lake Tyler on November 10-11, 2007 and will have a maximum of 30 teams from all A/Q series go to a very exciting $10,000 to the winner Championship. All A/Q Championships include Calcutta auctions which builds the Championship purse to some very nice $$ to compete for.
The air temp at takeoff was 43 degrees with a warming to 68 degrees at weigh in time. The water was at approximately 2 1/2 ft above pool level with water temps running 50-52 degrees in the main lake. The fishing was very tough on Big Sam today as only 3 limits were brought to the scales for a total of only 43 bass at 112.29 lbs making the average bass brought to the scales today weigh 2.61 lb.
Larry Cotten from Huffman & Clint May from La Porte, Tx ran Larry’s Sceeter/Evinrude bass rig to mid lake grass beds to cull to their limit of 5 bass flippin’ Texas rigged plastic baits to 15 ft deep grass edges and ended up with 14.54 lbs to finish in 1st place and collect the A/Q “Goal Posts” and $2620.00. Larry & Clint reported not having but 1 keeper in the boat at 10 am.
Charlie Higginbotham from Port Arthur & Shane Dorsey from Orange, Tx fished together today and gathered up their 5 bass and ended up with 14.39 lbs to finish in 2nd place and collected $1120.00. Stan & Steve Burgay both from Timpson, Tx ran their bass rig to numerous areas on the lake to catch their best 5 bass to bring to the scales and captured 3rd place and $620.00. Charlie Cooper from Onalaska & Chris Williford from Katy, Tx powered Chris’s Javelin/Evinrude bass rig to mid lake areas with 18′ grass ledges to catch the biggest bass of the tournament weighing in at 10.24 lbs to garner 4th place, big bass and $665.00 for their day on the water. Keith Stephenson & Sharon Withers finished their day with 4 bass at 9.94 lbs and collected 5th place and $370.00. Randy
Allen & George E. Cox finished in 6th place with 6.73 lbs and collected $340.00. Jeff Jackowski & Kevin Ekdall finished their day in 7th place with 5.92 lbs and collected $315.00. Ken Cook & Bob Vote finished in 8th place with 4.94 lbs and collected the last check of $265.00. Anglers Quest will be back on Big Sam on March 18 for the 3rd of the 5 Super Team Series events.
