N/E Division Leads Rayburn C.A.S.T. Classic

“Scattered grass and Old Monster worms helped us take the lead today, answered the Garland TX, Couples Team who were competing against a field of one hundred and seventy two. The happy, but tired duo, were fishing one of the oldest couples team circuit tournaments in the Nation to land a winning portion of the $100,000 being offered in cash & prizes.

“Couples doing what they like to do best, explained C.A.S.T. director, Jim Files, “Lots of fun, good fellowship, and plenty of fishing is what it’s all about. “And what better place to hold our year 2000 C.A.S.T. Classic, Jim lauded, “Then right here on Lake Sam Rayburn. “The C.A.S.T. organization is one of the oldest couples team tournament circuits in the Nation today, Jim informed, “Telling that the group was started back in 1984 and has grown to nine Texas regions in the state and has many requests to go National.

1st lead-(N/E)- Dianne Garman &Davis Burden of Garland, TX, managed to run their Nitro/Mercury to mid-lake scattered grass for working Loomis rods and Shimano reels spooled with 15 lb test Berkley Big Game mono. “We fished TX rigged Zoom black/blue old monster worms and black/blue 3/4 oz Lunker Lure jigs with Zoom black/blue critter craws, stated Davis, as he spoke of catching their 5 bass/16.09 lb weigh-in from a 20 bass catch. “We concentrated our efforts within 4′ to 12′ of water, Dianne informed.

2nd lead-(ArklaTex)-Julie & Virgil Akin of Texarkana, TX, put their HydroSport/Johnson bass-rig above Needmore Point to locate 8′ outside grass-edges where they worked Falcon rods and Ambassadeur reels spooled with 12 & 20 lb test Tri-lene mono. “We fished Berkley Power worms to catch nine bass for culling our 5 bass/15.17 lb 2nd place lead from, noted Julie & Virgil.

3rd lead-(S/E)- Pat & George Johnson of Hemphill, TX, ran their Ranger/Johnson bass-rig to Black Forest grass-ridges to work Castaway rods and Team Diawa reels spooled with 15 lb test P-Line. The newly retired Hemphill TX, residents fished 3′ to 5′ outside grass with green/pumpkin Denny Brauer Strike King flippin’ tubes to catch a “high-noon” 10 bass bite for their 3rd place leading weight of 5 bass/15.10 lbs- which included the day-1 big bass of 5.50 lbs caught by Georgia Johnson.
