Evidently the lady had something to prove. Fishing the Lake Amistad event without husband/partner, Waylon, Karla Bullard came to weigh-in with the heaviest 5-fish sack of the tournament; 21.84. You might expect over 21 lbs. would put it away. However, Janet Frerich’s second place bag was 21.14 lbs. What a cliff hanger. First and second place separated by only .70 of a pound! And Janet was fishing without a partner, too. Karla’s 6.84 lb. largemouth was good enough for overall Big Bass.
Both Bullard and Frerich were fishing the same type of structure; 12 to 18 feet using pumpkin french frys. Plastics, such as brush hogs, jerkbaits and wacky rigged Scoundrel worms, were the choice of virtually all couples. The majority were fishing the main lake from the bridge to marker number 20. Conditions could not have been much better; water clarity of 6 to 12 feet, moderate southeast wind, and no hard cold fronts, for a change.
There were a total of 78 bass brought to the scales for a total weight of 191.78 pounds.
