Phoenix Man Wins $5,000 Playing FLW Fantasy Fishing

Scott Sprencz of Phoenix, Arizona, correctly picked five of the top 10 anglers in last week’s Walmart FLW Tour event on Lake Eufaula presented by Quaker State. For his picks, Sprencz won $5,000 by playing FLW Fantasy Fishing, held in conjunction with the FLW Tour fishing tournament.

“I was really excited when I found out I won,” said Sprencz. “I’ve been playing FLW Fantasy Fishing for seven years, so I’ve been waiting a long time for a win.

“Normally I like to pick 10 anglers that I think will make it into the top 50,” continued Spencz. “However the last two tournaments I decided to trust my gut and pick a couple long shots to make it past the top 50 and into the top 10. They ended up having a great run and earned me a lot of points.”

Spencz said it was the research he put in on the FLW website before making his picks that helped push him to the top of the leaderboard.

“I look at how each angler has done on the lake in the past, as well as the time of year the tournament took place,” said Spencz. “That helps me to match winning patterns with the right group of anglers. I also take into account which competitors are on a hot streak. Right now, it’s Wesley Strader.”

When asked if he has any special plans for the prize money Spencz said he’d like to continue saving for a new boat.

“I’ve got a little 12-foot boat right now, but it will be nice to upgrade and the $5,000 is a good start,” said Spencz.

Finishing in second place on the fantasy side for the Lake Eufaula event was Kelly White of Sycamore, Alabama, who won $1,000, and in third place was Ricky Brannum of Kerman, California, who won $500. Several other winners from across the globe took home prizes including cash, ShopFLW gift cards, hats and baits.

The 2015 Fantasy Fishing season consists of seven tournaments surrounding the Walmart FLW Tour regular season as well as the season-ending Forrest Wood Cup, the world championship of bass fishing. Fans compete for more than $7,000 in cash and prizes from each of the six tournaments and a top prize of $5,000. The cumulative grand prize for the highest ranked player at the end of the season is $10,000.
