Rence & Paul Hanna Land 24.31 lbs to Claim Win

Practice day on Saturday had our couples facing gale force winds and pounding rain all day. It was all most impossible for any one to get on the lake. The forecast for the following day was for the weather conditions to deteriorate even more with 100% chance of rain. At the contestants meeting on Saturday night, Barbara asked everyone to bow their heads and she said a prayer asking for the rain to stop and the winds to cease. When I launched my boat early Sunday morning, I looked up and there were stars in the sky instead of the heavy rain clouds that were forecasted.

At weigh-in, I looked across the lake and it was like a mirror. I guess that God does sometimes answer yours prayers and I can definitely say that he must be a fisherman. What we thought would be a very slow tournament with only a few small fish weighed, turned out to have several very good catches with some large fish brought to the scales.

It took over 10 1/2 pounds just to get last place in the money. The winning catch was by Rence & Paul Hanna with a five bass limit going 24.31 pounds. They also were fortunate enough to also have the big bass of the day with a true monster going 9.58 pounds. Most of their fish came in water between 2 & 5 feet deep. They were using white Terminator Spinner Baits and just covering a lot of water.

The second place team of Nancy Harlow & Clark Seymour also had a good bag of fishing weighing in at 20.44 pounds. Most of their fish also came in water around 2 to 4 feet deep but were caught on Berkley power worms in the black/blue tail color. We had several other large bass brought to the scales, but the second place big bass went to Ashley & Joe Schroeder with a fish weighing exactly 8.00 pounds.

Rounding out the top six teams were, Ronnie & Pam Wilson, 19.72; Judy & Richie Rodgers, 17.81; Ashley & Joe Schroeder 17.32; and Robin & Allen Little, 15.02.
