Sanger High School recently won the 2015 Berkley High School Fishing Club Challenge. The challenge saw over 1,300 active participants and 174 high schools across 27 states were represented. As the newly crowned champions, Sanger High School in Sanger, Texas will receive $4,000 in prizes for the entire club.
“Our fishing club took the Berkley Challenge seriously, said Ed Penton, Sanger High coach. “We wanted to bring home the title from the beginning, and the win was a team effort. The grand prize will benefit our club and our community. We are all extremely grateful to Berkley for providing a national program for high school anglers that encourages training opportunities and lots of fun.”
There are many ways to accumulate points through the interactive site http://www.hs.berkley-fishing.com. The Berkley High School Fishing Club Challenge is an interactive fishing program for high school students in the US. The Challenge encourages students to learn fishing skills and techniques, environmental stewardship and conservation.
The first-place team wasn’t the only team cashing in on some Berkley prizes. Second place went to Berkeley Springs High School in Berkeley Springs, WV that pocketed $1,500 in prizes. Third place went to Travelers Rest High School out of Travelers Rest, SC, which received $500 in product.
“The 2015 Berkley High Challenge season was incredibly successful! It was a true battle to the finish. The top three schools define well-rounded teams. All three succeed at fishing tournaments along with participation in local natural resources efforts, teaching the next generation of anglers, and supporting their local communities. Winning took a lot of work and these teams earned the rewards.
“This year we added a unique interactive website for the students and coaches, said Roxanne Coleman, Berkley program manager. “Individual members and teams earn points for participation then cash in the points for fishing gear. What could be better than free line, bait, rods, fishing tools?”
The 2016 Berkley High Challenge begins August 1st and this year Berkley Fishing is casting a net for all high school anglers. It doesn’t matter whether anglers fish on a school club or team, with a local sports club or on your own – Berkley wants all anglers ages 13 to 19 on the Berkley Team. All student anglers have a chance to win more prizes and participate in more challenges. At the end of the year, Berkley will name the top clubs, but also a Berkley Student Angler of the Year, a scholarship for the Berkley Graduating Senior and much more.
