Your Ultimate Fishing Resource

Slow and Steady As You Go

Iâm Jim Moynagh, Team Yamaha Pro. When it comes to flipping and pitching, one thing that several other pros and I have discovered is that it’s really important to keep your trolling motor running at a constant speed as you move your boat along a shoreline. If you’re constantly going on and off the foot pedal, the fish may sense that something’s out there, and then it’s not, and then it’s there, and it gets cautious. Even though I use what I consider to be the quietest trolling motor, a Minn Kota Maxxum, the fish will still sense a change in vibration. So do what I do, pick a setting that’s going to keep you moving at a slow, steady pace as you go. And just keep your foot on it and just keep going, don’t take your foot off the throttle unless you have to.
