The final tournaments of the 2010 CAST season are proving to be some of the most competitive of the year. With tremendous stringers being caught despite the hot weather. Comments are always, “it’s to hot, the fish aren’t biting”; “you have to catch ’em in the morning or you’ll struggle”; none of this has been true for CAST anglers. The last three CAST Northeast Region events have all been won with stringers averaging over 27 pounds!!! Simply Incredible!
Steven & Caitlyn Stroman decided to forego the final tournament for their “home” region; CAST Ark-Tex, and instead finish out the year on a lake they felt more competitive fishing. CAST Northeast’s final event on Bob Sandlin fit the bill quite nicely. With the Ark-Tex and Northeast both holding tournaments on Sunday, June 27th; the Ark-Tex was at Cypress Springs, Steven & Caitlyn chose Bob Sandlin.
Their winning weight of 30.44 pounds for five fish capped the Northeast Region’s year as the heaviest stringer of the season. Adding another stamp on their victory, the 9.11 pound bass Steven caught, while talking to his Texas Parks & Wildlife – Game Warden friend, became the BIG BASS of the year in the Northeast Region as well. If you are going to win on the other teams playing field you might as well make it a “blow-out” just for emphasis!!!
To add to their accollades on the day Caitlyn put the first quality fish in the boat at 7:30 am with a 7.81 pound gorilla bass. Her big fish garnered the “Ladies Big Bass” award, courtesy of Big Al’s Texas Rubs, for the tournament!!!
Second Place on the day was captured by Allen & Betsy Shelton with 18.74 pounds. Allen & Betsy are exceptional anglers. Coming to Bob Sandlin, after spending Saturday fishing another circuit’s Sam Rayburn tournament, without any time to pre-fish, and producing a respectable bag at weigh-in proves the point on Allen & Betsy’s prowess. Good Job!!
Finishing the tournament in 3rd Place were David & Tammy Waller. Their “modest” 18.56 pound limit was caught from a concentration of fish they mined carefully all day. David & Tammy’s effort moved them from number two in the Angler’s of the Year race to the top spot. Congratulations on an impressive season guys!
An honorable mention needs to be made for Larry & Liz Petr. Larry & Liz did pre-fish Bob Sandlin on Saturday with some amazing results. Larry caught a 10.10 pound GIANT!!! They finished fourth on the day, thinking about what might have been. I’ll take that kind of pre-fishing anytime!
