Tennessee Tech Anglers Qualify For Ranger Cup University Team Of The Year Event

Will face qualifiers from FLW College Fishing National Championship

Landon Anderson and Tyler Arms, collegiate anglers from Tennessee Tech University, qualified for the 2014 Ranger Cup University Team of the Year Challenge with their second-place finish in the BoatUS Collegiate Bass Fishing Championship on May 23 at Alabama’s Lake Pickwick.

With their second-place finish, Anderson and Arms added $1,000 in contingency money from Ranger Cup University and became the second Tennessee Tech team in as many years to qualify for the Team of Year event with a second-place finish at the BoatUS Collegiate Bass Fishing Championship.

“We had never been on Pickwick prior to the Monday before the tournament and we started the first day of the event by fishing shallow and missed some really good fish,” Anderson said. “We pulled out to the edge of a shell bed and within 20 minutes had five fish that weighed more than 28 pounds and led after the first day. We went back there the second day but the size of the fish just didn’t hold up.”

As a Ranger Cup University-qualified team with the highest place of finish, Anderson and Arms will be matched against anglers from the University of Minnesota, who qualified through the FLW College Fishing National Championship earlier this year. Both teams will compete in a made-for-TV fish off that will be televised nationally on “Americana Outdoors” and will receive a grand-prize package that includes travel, lodging and meals, as well as the opportunity to compete for cash and prizes from fully rigged Ranger boats.

“Ranger Cup University is an important program for college anglers because it gives us experiences and opportunities that they would never be able to do otherwise,” said Anderson, who graduated this spring from Tennessee Tech. “This is my first year in the program and it was awesome for me; allowed us to go out with a bang.”

Modeled after Ranger Cup, the most lucrative contingency rewards in the industry, Ranger Cup University is the first program designed exclusively for collegiate anglers and is open to those fishing in either FLW- or BoatUS-affiliated competitions. Signup is free, regardless of which brand of boat the anglers own. To remain qualified in the program, anglers need only adhere to clothing and logo requirements.

As part of the Ranger Cup University program, participants receive specially discounted tournament gear through Gemini Custom Apparel, with no artwork or set-up fees. Through this partnership, Ranger Cup University anglers can purchase fully customized tournament jerseys for as low as $48.
