Two “Hawg” callers – Pop’Rs and Zara Spooks.

Top water fishing can be the most exciting fishing that we have in bass fishing. Some of my favorite baits are the Pop’R, as well as the Zara Spook. The Zara Spook is a bait I use a lot in the post spawn period when the fish are just leaving the spawning areas. And this bait tends to catch a better quality of fish. Make a long cast, get your rod tip and walk the bait back with a side to side motion. This is called “walking the dog”. In this rhythmic type situation, big fish will come long distances to get it. This is also a very, very good smallmouth bait. With a Pop’R, I like to fish in very tight to cover and keep it in the strike zone as long as I possibly can. And one of my favorites is the largest Pop’R made, it’s called a P70, and theyâre kind of hard to find. But this bait will actually “walk the dog” in and around all the cover youâre working in shallow water. Be ready, have plenty of good sharp hooks, a good medium tipped action rod to fight these fish with and I think you’ll find that the top water fishing, both large and smallmouth fishing is the most exciting fishing we have in bass fishing.By: Walker Agency
