The Walmart Bass Fishing League is headed to St. Clair Sept. 24-25 for its fifth and final stop in the Michigan Division. This will be a two-day super tournament where as many as 400 boaters and co-anglers will be competing for top awards up to $11,000 and $4,500, respectively.
“This should be a phenomenal tournament, but the fish are transitioning into fall,” said Walmart FLW pro Art Ferguson of St. Clair Shores, Mich. “You have to look for shallow patterns because they will definitely be moving, but when you find them, they are quality fish.
“There will always be some deeper fish and river fish, but it definitely becomes a little more geared toward a shallow bite this time of year,” Ferguson added. “Also, Lake Erie is still in the picture; if guys can make a run, the fish should be a little bigger than average there. I would say 22 to 23 pounds per day will win the tournament.”
Takeoffs will be at the Metro Beach Metropark located at 31300 Metro Parkway in Mount Clemens, Mich. at 6 a.m. each morning. Saturday’s weigh-in will be at the marina beginning at 2 p.m., and Sunday’s final weigh-in is scheduled for 4 p.m. at the Walmart located at 45400 Market Place Blvd. in Chesterfield, Mich. Takeoffs and weigh-ins are free and open to the public.
The BFL is a 24-division circuit devoted to weekend anglers, offering bigger prizes to those who qualify for regional championships and those who make it to one of the longest-running championships in all of competitive bass fishing – the Walmart BFL All-American presented by Chevy. Top winners in the BFL can move up to the EverStart Series or even the Walmart FLW Tour.
