The Walmart Bass Fishing League is headed to Lake Guntersville Sept. 24-25 for its fifth and final stop in the Choo Choo Division. This will be a two-day super tournament with as many as 400 boaters and co-anglers will be competing for top awards up to $11,000 and $4,500, respectively.
” Lake Guntersville will be tough,” said National Guard pro Jonathan Newton of Rogersville, Ala. “The lakes have been down a little bit, and I think it’s a result of the weather we’ve been having.
“I would expect lower weights, historically lower than usual, because the fish are transitioning, and it becomes harder to keep up with them,” Newton added. “However, I still think it will take over 20 pounds per day to win, and this should be a great event.”
Takeoffs will be at the Val-Monte Lakeside Resort & Marina located at 7000 Val-Monte Drive in Guntersville at 7 a.m. each morning. Saturday’s weigh-in will be at the marina beginning at 3 p.m., and Sunday’s final weigh-in is scheduled for 4 p.m. at the Walmart located at 11697 U.S. Hwy. 431 in Guntersville. Takeoffs and weigh-ins are free and open to the public.
The Choo Choo BFL tournament is being hosted by the Marshall County Convention & Visitors Bureau.
The BFL is a 24-division circuit devoted to weekend anglers, offering bigger prizes to those who qualify for regional championships and those who make it to one of the longest-running championships in all of competitive bass fishing – the Walmart BFL All-American presented by Chevy. Top winners in the BFL can move up to the EverStart Series or even the Walmart FLW Tour.
