The Walmart Bass Fishing League is headed to Old Hickory Lake Oct. 1-2 for its fifth and final stop in the Music City Division. This will be a two-day super tournament where as many as 400 boaters and co-anglers will be competing for top awards up to $11,000 and $4,500, respectively.
” Old Hickory Lake is really a shallow-water fishery,” said Walmart pro Wesley Strader of Spring City, Tenn. “There are several different patterns, but for the most part this should be a shallow-water tournament.
“I think buzzbaits, jigs and any other shallow-water baits will be very productive,” Strader added. “However, it will depend on how much water is being released from the lakes above Old Hickory Lake. I think 12 to 14 pounds per day will win the event, but somebody could easily catch a nice stringer around the 18 pound mark.”
Takeoffs will be at the Bulls Creek Access Area located at 200 Odums Bend Rd. in Gallatin at 7 a.m. each morning. Saturday’s weigh-in will be at the marina beginning at 3 p.m., and Sunday’s final weigh-in is scheduled for 4 p.m. at the Walmart located at 1112 Nashville Pike in Gallatin. Takeoffs and weigh-ins are free and open to the public.
The Music City BFL tournament is being hosted by the Sumner County Convention & Visitors Bureau.
The BFL is a 24-division circuit devoted to weekend anglers, offering bigger prizes to those who qualify for regional championships and those who make it to one of the longest-running championships in all of competitive bass fishing – the Walmart BFL All-American presented by Chevy. Top winners in the BFL can move up to the EverStart Series or even the Walmart FLW Tour.
