The Waunakee High School team of Colin Steck and Nathan Lorenz brought four bass to the scale Sunday weighing 9 pounds, 2 ounces to win the 2015 Wisconsin State High School Fishing Championship on Lake Wisconsin. The win earned the team the title of state champions and qualified the team to compete in the High School Fishing Central Conference championship on Lake Carlyle in September.
The top two teams on Lake Wisconsin that advanced to the Central Conference Championship were:
1st: Waunakee High School – Colin Steck and Nathan Lorenz, four bass, 9-2
2nd: Kettle Moraine High School – Henry Ersbo and Josh Schmirler, four bass, 8-0
Rounding out the top 10 teams were:
3rd: Burlington Catholic Central High School – Bailey Bleser and William Buhler, four bass, 6-2
4th: Unknown High School – Max Staninoga and Dalton Saladis, two bass, 6-0
5th: Watertown High School – Mason Van Ert and Dylan Dittberner, three bass, 5-1
6th: Prairie du Chien High School – Hunter Sheckler and Dylan Yeomans, two bass, 4-1
7th: Mississippi Coulee High School – Brady McCoy and Josh Gruen, one bass, 3-3
8th: Brookfield Central High School – Kin Xiong and Kyle Kasabuske, two bass, 3-2
9th: St. Mary Central High School – Kyle Krysiak and Ben Seidl, one bass, 3-0
10th: Aquinas High School – Nick Urich and Joseph Gaspard, one bass, 2-0
10th: Pewaukee High School – Dakota Koepp and Jayden Schmitz, one bass, 2-0
The 2015 Wisconsin State High School Fishing Championship was a two-person (team) event for students in grades 7-12. The top 10 percent from each TBF/FLW state championship field will advance to a High School Fishing conference championship along with the top three teams from each of the seven TBF/FLW High School Fishing Opens held this season. The top 10 percent of each conference championship field will then advance to the High School Fishing National Championship, coinciding with the TBF National Championship and an FLW Tour stop in the spring of 2016. The High School Fishing national champions will each receive a $5,000 college scholarship to the school of their choice.
In addition to the High School Fishing National Championship, all High School Fishing anglers nationwide automatically qualify for the world’s largest high school bass tournament, the 2015 High School Fishing World Finals, held on Pickwick Lake in Florence, Alabama, on July 8-11.
