Anglers Quest 2004 Wednesday Series #23 on Lake Conroe out of Anchorage Marina in Willis, TX began this final event for 2004 with 48 Teamed anglers showing up to fish for the cash purse of $1020.00. The Wednesday evening series has wound down to this last event to end the 2004 season. The Angler of the Year race was won by the team of Ron & Ronnie Wagner with an incredible 164.53 lbs.
Lake Conroe water was in decent shape at about 1 ft below normal pool level, with water temps running mostly in the high 80’s in the main lake. At takeoff it was 88 degrees with a brisk SE wind. The catching was a little slow on Lake Conroe this evening as their was 1 limit brought to the scales and 18 bass for a total of 53.70 lbs making the average bass brought to the scales this evening weigh 2.98 lb.
For the third week in a row a different local “Big Dogs” team of Wesley Schubert from Willis and Russell Cecil from Waxahatchie, Tx ran their Ranger/Mercury bass rig to mid main lake points with brush to fish crank baits with Falcon rods in 8-10 ft of water to catch 5 bass that tipped the scales at 14.08 lbs to finish in 1st place and collect $325.00.
The team of Michael Cox & Joe Bruno from Willis, Tx ran their Champion/Evinrude bass rig south to main lake humps with brush to fish large crank baits to catch 3 bass that tipped the scales at 10.27 lbs to grab 2nd place and 1st Big Bass and collect $393.00.
The team of Ward Baker from Houston and Charles Rucker from Spring, Tx ran Charles’s Skeeter/Yamaha bass rig to main lake humps and ridges to fish crank baits in 8-10 ft water to catch 3 bass that tipped the scales at 8.61 lbs to finish in 3rd place to collect $150.00.
The team of Ronnie Chumley & Jeff Winders brought in the 2nd Big Bass of the event tonight, a fine 4.64 lber to capture 4th place and collect $152.00.
